@Goodie2shoes I'm so sorry - I know shingles can be incredibly painful.
I am about to call my insurance company thanks to your post! I had the original shot years ago and just never could get scheduled for the newer one which I know I should have.
Scheduling should be easier now that I am no longer moving every 6 months. Just want to know who is paying before I start.

Starting those anti viral meds as soon as possible is the key to controlling the virus, and the pain associated with it.
My doctor treats with oral and topical anti virals, and usually prescribes Gabapentin to help with the pain.
Hoping you feel better soon!

I am so sorry. For me it was the worst pain ever. I had it last year. After that, I got the Shingrex vaccines.
Did you have both Shingrex vaccines? Just curious. Take it easy and try to feel better!
sorry you went thru this but you can understand how I feel. Yes I had the vaccine. When the doctor told me it was shingles I remembered that commercial and I yelled out SHINGLES ??? he laughed.
@Goodie2shoes in this case, would the Dr give you another dose of the vaccine? Hope you feel better soon.
I was shocked also when the Dr said I had shingles. I keep saying that I have been through Cervical Spine pain so I was spared the Shingles pain. I'm very thankful because I see how it affects people.

@CatsyCline wrote:My son had chicken pox when he was 6. IDK why as he had all the proper immunizations. Anyway he had all these little "bites" on his back one morning. i thought it was flea bites because our Himalayan cat had a bad case of fleas.
i drove him to school that morning and then halfway back to the house i realized he had chicken pox! i did a quick 180 and pulled him out of class. He's 43 now and i'll make him aware of shingles.
@CatsyCline there is nothing he can do to prevent it. So far the vaccine is only for people 50 and over. Lately there has been a lot of talk about Shingles.

@Goodie2shoes - I will pray for your comfort.
My mom had it on her forehead. She was in agony. She came down with it after a period of extreme stress, She slathered Vitamin E cream on and said that helped. She recommended that cream the rest of her life - to everyone.
My uncle had it around his waist. He was in agony too.
I hope your case is mild, and that you are able to rest with little pain. And I hope your course is brief! Thinking of you!

Sorry to hear this. We do what we can to protect ourselves from these things, but for some reason, it doesn't always work. Hoping the meds you've gotten have you feeling better soon. Prayers for you.

.My doctor has always told me: "You don't want to get shingles."
Meaning, it's bad!

@RedTop that's what my Dr prescribed (Gabapentin) but I'm not in any pain so I no longer take it. I was also taking it last year for nerve pain and I do believe that it also help with the Shingles because the meds were already in my system.

Thank you all for the well wishes! I'm not having any discomfort in the rash area right now, it's the stabbing right sided head pain every 20-30 secs. Online I read it described as "ice pick'' like pain. I have had all of my shringrix vaccinations, just never thought this would happen but I will recover. The MD placed me on Valacyclovir 1000 mg 3 times per day for 7 days. .
