I just saw Rick introduce DiBruno's holiday gift baskets on Gourmet Holiday - Countdown to Christmas. DiBruno's is a long-time Italian foods purveyor in Philly and environs. We started shopping at their store on 9th St. at least 30 years ago. They have become more upscale since then, and we don't go as often now that the kids have moved out.
My friend bought me a DiBruno's gift basket last year after I stayed with her after her knee replacement. Those black lava cashews are pretty darn good. But their stuff is overpriced. I think you are paying for the name, but the quality is good.
ETA: The shopping experience there back in the day was a hoot. You had to wait to go in because the aisle in front of the counter was so narrow. There were big buckets of olives, and the boys were giving everyone samples of cheese and salami. You had to be assertive to get your order in. And then you had to order fast.

i LOVE dibruno brothers items, especially their cheeses. we find the quality of their items to be excellent.
these gift baskets would make EXCELLENT gifts.
my daughter had her birthday party at dibruno brothers last month. it was her and about a dozen friends. food samplings of almost anything in the store, wine tastings and pairings, discounts on everything in the store at the end.

@sunshine45 I saw their party options advertised the last time we were there. That does sound like fun!

@PA Mom-mom No doubt at all that you're paying for the name in that gift basket. Nostalgia is a very successful sales device no matter what you're selling. I can't remember a time or a product for which that wasn't true.
My morning coffee this week is Red Circle. I can still see the oiled wooden floor in the local A&P where my mother bought it freshly ground once WWII rationing was gone. I can almost smell that store even. Nostalgia all the way!

@PA Mom-mom One thing I miss is how delicious Italian food from Philadelphia is---there's no comparison to anything where I live now.

@rockygems123 He really looks like that kid who used to wait on us many years ago. I wish I could remember his name. He was a card.
The price on this bsket is better than anything they offer on their website.

@PA Mom-mom He said his name, Emilio Mignucci 3rd generation owner. He says he was always at the store, that may be the kid you saw!
I ordered the current shipment and may continue with the other 2 advance orders, luxury of advance you can change your mind or be thrilled you ordered ![]()
Even though we're not Italian growing up in SF with mostly Italians gave us the opportunity to have the best home made gnocci, focaccia bread, salami's etc. Columbus meats which makes the best skin on hanging dry salami was located in our actual home town of South San Francisco.
Looking forward to trying east coast Italian. So glad you mentioned this company.
PS Stacey said to him to bring in his sexy olives. He said she's definitely old school Philly if she knows about those. You familiar with them?

@rockygems123 Well, they sold out fast, didn't they? I have a feeling we'll see them again. I'm not at all sure about the "sexy olives," but we used to love the spring mix, which was a mix of very flavorful olives in a brine. I don't think I'm old school Philly. Hahaha! We just spent a lot of time shopping in the Italian market.

Heard abt some lady who sued an exclusive Italian Deli after she slipped on a piece of prosciutto on the floor . She fractured her ankle and was suing for alot of money .
So watch out at those deli's.
