It took 30 years but finally the Nazi war criminal-Demjanjuk was found guilty. He will probably be the last Nazi to face families and survivors of those sent to the death camps. Demjanjuk was found guilty of the deaths of 28,00 people many of them children under 15 and women and old people. Some people are saying he is an old man now and does not deserve this and others say it should be put behind us and it will solve nothing. I feel that these ideas are so wrong on so many levels. He needs to be held accountable for his crimes no matter how old he is or how frail. Did he feel for the the children as they were led to the gas chambers or the frail that were beaten or the women and girls that were raped? I think not.
What is frightening is those who still deny the Shoah happened; including religious leaders of recent note. Perhaps if all students in this country were made to tour the Holocaust museums or visit the death camps we might see a change in attitude and how they would view bullying and how to respect others of different beliefs. On second thought maybe we all should visit a Holocaust site we may make the world more compassionate.
