I have read that Fresh Market opened in Rehoboth.
We are "seriousl" considering this area for retirement.

the one that is near to the old tower on the beach.....the tower that needs restoring. we call it the blue bridge (right on route 1) because it lights up blue at night.
also, if you like indian food try INDIGO in rehoboth. dont forget to stop by the spice and tea exchange. i love the smells in there.

Yes, many years ago, when we were stationed at Dover AFB, DE! They are very nice and family friendly, except they call it the "Beach" not the shore, LOL!!!

Dover AFB is not near the shore. The Dleaware shore is charming and once you have been it draws you back

@I am still oxox enjoy your well deserved get away. Please beware of the issues going on at the Eastern coasts. This has been a horrific summer on the Eastern Beaches. Rip tides and up to 25-30 people having to be saved a day on busy days. Bacteria is the water and the list goes on. The Big positive, I have not seen any recent sharks coming into the knee deep water from FL to Jersey in the last week.
Not trying to scare you but not certain if you are a news lover and keep the TV on the news like we do most of the day. Just sit by a good looking Life Guard and all should be fine and hopefully the flag flying will be giving the all clear.
This was the 1st year I do not want to do water sports when we hit the shore but our place is further south.
Have fun!!! Hope you get great weather!!

I follow the community that we are going to on FB and there has been no mention of any issues in the beaches, I am not a beach person, we will usually ride over spend an hour and ride back to the other side

@Hooty is correct. In Delaware it is the custom to always use the word "beach" rather than "shore!" We were not aware of that until we moved to the suburbs of Philly after living in suburban Washington DC our entire lives! When we lived in the DC area we regularly visited Bethany, Dewey, Rehoboth, and Lewes and referred to them as beaches simply because that was what the signs, etc. said. When we moved to the Philly area we heard that there is a real distinction that is observed by Delaware ... even a supposed law is on the books that the word beach should be used instead of shore!! The local Philly meteorologists whose broadcasts extend down to Dover, DE are always very, very careful to reference the beaches in Delaware as beaches vs.the ones in New Jersey as the Jersey shore! ![]()
And Dover, DE is just a mere 40 miles from Lewes, Rehoboth, etc. so people who live there visit the beaches very often.
We absolutely love the Delaware beaches and continue to visit them now that we are in the Philly area ... even though we are probably a little closer to the Jersey shore. I agree with all of the recommendations from others here!!! One I would add is Rusty Rudder in Dewey...great food and a beautiful setting! Have a wonderful trip!!![]()

oh my, I live in Delaware. I have been to the beaches over the years.
sorry about underline, can’t get it to stop on my pad
Anyway, last time i was at the beach for a visit was 2 yrs ago. Am not a swimmer or sand lover. My DD and her family go weekly to the beaches. The only thing she has ever complained about is parking is so limited and so hard to find. Sometimes she has to driver around for quite some time to find a place to park or the kids have to go down to beach really super early in the morn to make sure they get a legal park spot.

no matter what you call it, the area is beautiful......especially bethany and fenwick island.
we call it the beach, the ocean, sometimes the shore, delmarva, and as a baltimoreon we also say "downey oshun, hon!"
bethany to dover is about 55 miles or so. in season it does NOT take an hour unfortunately, especially if you are driving during peak times (especially fridays or saturdays.....sundays going home.) there can be gridlock between dewey and lewes when you are leaving the area and between milford through dewey when you are entering the area. yes, the parking situation can be tight, but there are beach busses and now uber when you want to go out. if you stay beachfront or close by you can avoid the situation.
watch for the police all over the place......in sight and hidden. they issue a lot of tickets this time of the year.
"second season" is my favorite time of the year......and you can ask a lot of locals about that!
