Re: Del Monte Files For Bankruptcy

Whenever I buy canned goods (not often), it is always Del Monte.

Re: Del Monte Files For Bankruptcy

Just checked our pantry. The only Del Monte canned goods are sweet peas. What little canned goods we have are Cento, Delallo, Genova, Bush's.  We grow a lot of what we eat and go to our local farmers market.

Taste and how healthy  things are are important to us.  We eat as little processed food as possible.

Just checked the pantry, even split-Libby and DelMonte.

I always keep 8 or 10 cans onhand. I'm sorry to hear this.

I frequently throw a wad of canned corn in a salad. It is also good in pasta or soups. I like frozen corn and baby green peas the same way. But man, oh man, I can't tolerate those canned peas. My husband loved them. I hated to see them on the table when I was a wee one. I will miss Del Monte also. So much change and going away in our world. The older I get, the more I dislike it. My inner gramma is showing. lol

My mother tortured me with canned Lima beans.  Gag.  I had to sit at the table until they were gone.  I'd sneak them to the greedy dachshund when she turned her back.

My inner grandma is showing, too, @cody2.

You and me @tansy . I could not tell you how many nights I sat at the table refusing to eat whatever vegetable Mom prepared that night.

I was stubborn, so it always became a war of wills. My Dad got tired of listening to "our war". So he taught me how to eat vegetables with condiments on them. Lima beans got ketchup on them.

I was right there with you all at the dinner table long after everyone else had finished.  No dessert until I ate all the vegetables my mother had put on my plate.  This was before microwaves so many a night I had to gag down cold peas (my most hated).

I finally got smart as I got a little older and ate the awful vegetables first to get them done and over with.

And oddly, I now like peas!

@tansy I will gag with you on the lima beans. And I like most beans. The large ones are the worst. They are big, dry and grainy. I don't like the skin that comes off the outsides in my soup. I did a lot of overtime at the kitchen table in the dark and alone. With me it was fish. I still detest it, including shellfish.

Another lima bean enemy here. There isn't a veggie I won't eat, save for the dreaded Lima bean. I used to keep in mouth, excuse to go to bathroom and spit them out.

@geezerette LOL. I did the same thing after my brains grew in. Get the worst part done first. Wash it down with milk and hurry up and put a food I liked in my mouth. That theory has served me well in other parts of life. If I have 3 things to do today, I am doing the worst first. Then the rest of the day can only get better.

funny how we all were required to eat all of dinner, like it or not.  I was always hungry, and ready for dinner... as there weren't really snacks back in the50's and early 60's.  We had maybe saltine crackers, PB, that was it.  And surely if there was any snack,  my little brothers ate  it all. Now a days kids are so picky, I mean picky. Even a few of my grands!  The parents make them cereal, or something else if they don't like what is served.  Not us, we had to eat, or that's it. With my Mom, it was always about the "starving kids in Korea who would love to have our food".  Always, lol. I was born in late 40's, so I was boomer... having  been an after product of WWII. then the Korean War actually going on  in my childhood
