@Sooner  Those little critters are EVERYWHERE! Growing up, my Dad had a running battle with them in competition for the hickory nuts. He usually got just enough for one cake or one batch of Russian Tea Cookies. Back then, the squirrels were feeding on less polluted things, so we shot them and ate them. They are delicious!

@Sooner   We have a hazel nut tree in the back yard....never have we seen a nut in going on 30 years. The squirrels eat them all when they are still green.

I had to cut away the tree branches which were near or touching my house. The squirrels were using those tree branches as bridges to get on top of my roof. They still leap from the trees to get there but not all of them do, especially the smaller younger ones.

They use the flat top of the fences here as a highway.  We have a 6 foot fence that backs up to an 8 foot fence.  The taller fence is stone on one end and board on the other. So they have a double decker highway.  And in ONE spot it is close enough for them to jump on the roof!!!!!!

They are EVERYWHERE this year.  They are running on our roof and I am nervous about what they are doing up there.  They have tried to break in before and did damage to the house.

Do you have a bumper crop of them in your area?

You probably should have your roof checked then (depending on what material it's covered with).  They damaged the roof of my house in Durham NC and hid nuts, acorns in there a couple of years ago.

We have one lone ranger who likes to scurry along the telephone wire between the yards.  He also likes to do "his/her business" in our backyard. (frowny face)

He/She needs to stay up on the wire because the neighborhood stray cat is eyeing him/her and has almost got him/her twice.

@SilleeMee I have when I was small.  As I remeber it just tasted fried like chicken.  I don't remember hating it.  Haven't had it since.

@KatieB Oh I can imagine that!  We had wood shakes in our last house, but in this one it is a hail-resistant comp roof.  I loved the shakes, but they are a fire hazard so we had to go with the flow.

Isn't that what many say about eating wildlife, "it tastes just like chicken".

In my experience with venison, bison, squirrel, etc., NO it doesn't taste anything like chicken, IMO.

I don't care how you try to 'brine it' to get rid of the wild taste, it doesn't

Probably a precursor to an exceptionally hard winter.

Forging at an excessive rate.

Yep, we live in squirrel central, and I stopped thinking they were cute after the first year.  I agree that they're just furry rats!

Our squirrel population seems to stay the same (gazillions of them!) but what we've had an explosion of this year is lizards.  I have never seen so many lizards in my life!  They are literally running all over the ground day and night.  A number of times I've opened a door to go out and a lizard dashes into the house. So extreme that I've come to think of it as another 2020 oddity.
