Oh, it's scary isn't it. I had that happen to me about a month ago. Came out of nowhere. I had my blinker on to turn into my street. My car was in the shop for a week. The deer was not killed though. It took him a few attempts to get back on his feet and he was gone by the time the cops arrived. It really shook me up hurting an animal. We have many deer around here. I hope it never happens again.

Oh, no! Hope you were not injured. I had that happen to me once. The deer hit the side of my car, bounced up on the hood, smashed the front windshield into a zillion pieces, and then fell off the other side causing damage there also. The insurance agent asked me if I ran into a herd of deer!
I was really sore the next day and had little shards of glass sticking out of my face. I ended up in the ER.

Sorry for your accident, and glad you were not injured.
Deer are absolute nuisance rodents, and we are overrun with them here in WV. Our hunters feel deer hunting season should be longer, and include doe as well as buck. They cause horrible accidents in my area every day. At least if a deer runs into your car and dies, the state of WV lets you keep the animal for food, rather than let it rot on the side of the road, which draws coyotes and bears into that area.

I was on my way to work years ago and saw a deer jump out of the trees and jump over the hood of my car and land on the hood of a van in the next lane over. It went up in the air and landed on the street. The van had horrible damage to the hood but kept going. I couldn't believe it. I guess he didn't have a license or insurance.
I got to work and called 911 so they could get the deer off the main road. I shook the whole day.

I know a lot of states let you keep road kill, but I'm not so sure I'd want to. Fist of all, there is the flea and tick issue, and deer can carry rabies. More than that, a deer that is killed by a car will have serious internal injuries, and all that gore would likely render the meat useless.
Having said that, I feel the OP's pain. I once had a deer cross in front of my car. Unfortunately a car coming from the opposite direction spooked him, and he did a 180 and turned right back into the side of my car. Left a basketball-sized dent in the driver door, and sheared the rear view mirror clean off.
