Re: Deep planing and scaling at dentist-Help

Hi shop, I did have that procedure several years ago. I had half done, then went back for the other half. I also get nervous about dental work, but other than some mild soreness it was not bad. It is like a dental cleaning, only they numbed my mouth. I know you naturally dread it, but I know several people that have had this done, and none have complained after. Good luck, it will be fine.

To add, concentrate on little Joey getting his fluid when you are in the dental.chair, that will help get you through.

Shop, I have it done about 3 times a year. It's just a more thorough cleaning. Please don't worry. I don't like going to the dentist, even though they are very gentle, so, if I don't mind getting it done, most other people won't either. You'll be just fine.Smile

Not that bad. Had nitrous oxide, closed my eyes & thought about a vacation in Florida. Your gums will be a little sore but that's why you get 1/2 at a time. I was a real chicken about dentists & was surprised it wasn't that bad. Let us know how it turns out.{#emotions_dlg.thumbup1}

I was always happiest when I had a chance to tell patients who were treatment planned for this procedure to NOT WORRY! If you are having 1/2 mouth (rather than 1/4) it can't be too terribly advanced or difficult. I rarely needed to numb my patients and when it was over they often said ""that's it?!"". Think of it as a more thorough cleaning in respect to area that's being cleaned.

Agree with the others - it's not that bad at all. I had mine done in halfsies too. IIRC, I had some shots and that made it painless.

Ever since then I really made a concerted effort to take the best care of my teeth possible and I go in every six months for cleanings (I worked up from every 3 months to every 5 months to every 6 months since I'm doing really well at home). I didn't want all that to go to waste. I don't have medical insurance, so it was pretty pricey.
