Re: Debris found Indian Ocean MH370?

Africa is near the west side of the Indian Ocean. I believe investigators found some debris near Madagascar. The ocean currents probably took the debris in that direction.

I really hope it is, so the families can have some closure.

Re: Debris found Indian Ocean MH370?

Looks like it's some of the missing plane, just from preliminary observations.  Maybe it will hint at where other parts may be found.

Mystery is, if the plane was going north to Beijing, why was some debris found so far south and easterly of that direction - ocean currents and all?

It sounds like they are now confirming that the piece did come from a 777 and I heard yesterday that only two 777s have ever gone down and the other one happened at Heathrow.

[ Edited ]

The Today show this AM reported that the currents in the Indian ocean would have carried the debris, after all this time,  just about to the point where the wing part was found.

They said they keep track of ocean currents and may be able to locate the wreckage (most likely at the bottom of the ocean) by tracing the current backwards until they are at a point of probable impact.

ETA: Missed Jazzmom's post saying the same--sorry!

The reporter said the Indian ocean's currents were counterclockwise.

Re: Debris found Indian Ocean MH370?

wonderful news for sure to find debris but where it is coming from who knows.

the plane has been down for 16 months. A math genius would really have crunch numbers to figure out a possible place where the plane went down.

wave actions, storms , shipping lanes, so much to crunch into where these parts are coming from.

at least this is a start.

So now there is a suitcase that washed up as well.  It's all very tell tale.  CNN Wolf and his commentors now will share that the plane was intentionally steered off course.  They also posted a route which had the plane flying to another destination.  Looks like Perth, Australia.  Didn't happen though.  There are bad guys out there folks.

If it is wreckage from the missing aircraft, it would definitely support a deliberate downing from the pilot.

Interesting.  That far east in the Indian Ocean when it was supposed to be headed north.  Interesting.

They know the plane never followed through on the northerly path because it never entered air space around Vietnam.  The pilots never called in to the new air traffic controller nor did they ever have the plane on radar at that point. No other radars along that northerly flight path in the area picked up the plane either.

They are very certain the plane turned around and headed back south flying away from the intial flight path.

So all things are pointing to just that.  The plane went down somewhere in the vast Southern Indian Ocean.  I feel so sorry for the family members.  This has just been a nightmare for them.

Yes this was a sudden and deliberate turn to the south west direction.  There was never any communication from the pilots just before and after the turn.  The assumption is that the plane kept flying till it ran out of fuel.
