Pay them in CASH!!!  They'll go crazy.  Or Pay the whole year with one check and only one $5.00 charge.

They certainly won't take cash.  Paying for the year or for half year makes sense if OP objects to the $5.00 a month.

Magicmoodz. BINGO. That is exactly what I am going to do if they won't accept the one time payment. Great minds think alike. Lol. They are really a pain in the neck. Very strick

I agree with all the posters who said they would never give out their banking info. Like I said, I'm the same way. I always said the same thing, that I would never let anyone debit my accounts. Now this new law!!!!  That's why this new "law" bothered me a lot. It's forcing me to do what I said I would never do.  The only automatic deposits is SS and my pension. That can't be avoided.

I spoke to the person in charge. I sensed an attitude coming on, but I was as polite and as sweet as I could be so she mellowed. So I'm just guessing they are expecting some riff raft from some of the condo owners.

To the ladies who answered that they wouldn't give out their banking info, what would you do if you had this new law from an HOA? That is exactly my dilemma. But I have gotten good advice here.

Thanks ladies.

I would end up paying the $5 fee.

Law???   It's not a law.  They aren't asking for your banking information.  It's really no different than writing a check.  When you write a check, they have your bank and routing number and your account number and a nefarious person can do a lot with that.  Well, giving them access to deduct the monthly fee is no different than that.  You give them the same info and authorize them to deduct X amount a month.  You know full well that life comes with risks and there is no such thing as 100% safety in things like this.  We do the best we can and take it on faith.  So, send the check and pay the $5.  Don't sweat the small stuff....especially when there's nothing you can do about it.

Missy1, that's $60.00 more a year. No,way. They get enough from me.

I could purchase something on QVC for that amount. 😂😂😂😂

Just like @CareBears, that happened here once too.  Someone went into the account and took a bunch out.  Had to jump on that puppy in a hurry. Luckily that got fixed ASAP.  Never trusted them again.

Re: Debiting checking account for payments

There is no law that says that all  businesses and entities must accept cash as a form of payment.

Just because it says "this note is legal tender for all debts private and public", does NOT mean that a business or entity must accept it.

That's the rules that her HOA set up, and that's what she agreed to when she joined.

Now she's "too good" for the rules.

Now the rules shouldn't apply to her.

Well, that's just too bad, because they do.

Don't like the rules?

Then move to a place where you won't have to pay HOA fees.

Just another entitled special snowflake.

That's the problem with society today.

People think that the rules shouldn't apply to them, and pout and throw a hissy-fit like a toddler, when they are made to follow the rules.

Too bad.

The rules apply to everybody.

Including the "special snowflakes".

Chrystaltree, very very very good point.
Thanks. I know it's trivial and perhaps I have too much time on my hands since my hubby died. I really should get over it and just give the info they require.

its sometimes hard to teach an old dog new tricks. But I'm working on it. 😉😉😉

Plaidpants2. Not a nice reply. I never said anywhere the rules don't apply to me!! I don't mind paying the HOA fees, or, of course I would move. The community I live in offer a lot and I'm grateful for that.  By the way, I'm not a snowflake. But snowflakes are beautiful so I'll take that as a compliment.

I didn't think I was throwing a hissy fit. Just taken off guard at having to change something I never did before. I would have felt the same if I was told by the electric company or something else. The HOA isn't the issue.

You sound angry. I'm sorry if I made you angry. Have a blessed thanksgiving.

No malice was intended in me posting this. Just looking for suggestions, which I have received. And I'm grateful for that.

Have a great day!!

Re: Debiting checking account for payments

I don't see the big deal. Now days even when you write a physical check it is then done electronically. Unless it's a small mom and pop company. Write a check at kohls or target and anywhere else if is processed electronically. You do realize your bank and routing number is on your check also. So they have that information anyway.
