Debit Card all the way. I like the idea of having the charges taking out instantly and no limit whatsoever. Credit Cards have a Credit Limit but my Debit Card does not. Nothing better than that.
Used both over the years but now I only use my Debit Card. Unline purchases, no problem and yes my Bank covers any fraud transactions.
Some like Debit Cards and some like Credit Cards. We can't all be the same.

If it's a large purchase then I will use an actual credit card.
Several years ago my card was compromised a handful of times at gas stations which is why I now stick to Costco due to their safety protocol for their stations. I have had no further issues. I also check my checking account online almost every day. The three times that my card was compromised. I contacted the bank, I was immediately refunded the money while they did their investigation, so it really does depend on your comfort level.
I would recommend contacting your bank to see what their policies are.
@icezeus same here. I check my account daily. What i like about my Bank is that your money is refunded while they investigate. I don't like a Bank putting restrictions on how much I can spend and that's one reason I prefer using my Debit Card.
My Debit Card also has the Visa symbol which i can use as Debit or Credit.

@CherryHugs Debit cards can be used as a credit card so bank account is not compromised. Never put a code in for debit but bypass that to use it as a credit card! Using puting a password in allows easier access to your bank account so never use debit except at ATM! I can't underst and am stunned that everybody does not know this! I don't even think there is a debit card that you cannnot use as a charge card also!

Credit card only for me. Seems too easy if lost or stolen for someone to use it. But what do I know...LOL I don't own a debit card.

I only use my debit card to get cash when I need it. For purchases it's only a credit card, never a debit card.

You need the password to use the debit card but not to use it as a credit card. Debit card transactions are handled by your bank but if used as just a credit card, transactions are handled seperately by the credit card company such as VISA or MC.

@Pook I'm not sure I understand the point you're trying to make. Regardless whether you use the card as a debit or credit card, the funds still come from your bank account almost immediately (there may be a day delay as goes through credit card system.) If your account doesn't have overdraft protection, you could be refused if you don't have the funds to cover (and suppose you are waiting for a return or were accidentally charged twice - this is cash you can't use.)
To the OP, although may not be relevant, debit cards have a daily limit, some as low as $500/day. May be higher and you may never notice it, but you may have an issue putting larger items on the card (I believe you may get around by calling the bank - my coworker has to do this.)
Personally, as others have commented, I primarily use my credit card that earns points. Some credit cards give cash back, etc. I rarely use my debit card for everyday purchases.

I use both debit and credit cards. I rarely carry cash.

@tansy - and the thought of that possibly happening is why I stopped using mine.
@gidgetgh @tansy I gave up my debit card years ago. It was also breached a few times. I only use a credit card or cash. I don't use an ATM either. I write a check for cash at my bank and this works best for me.
@Mombo1 - I write a check at my bank also. And then I bring the cash home and dole it out to myself and replenish my wallet. It's worked great for years. This made me chuckle because I'm old school when it comes to getting our "allowance" - usually the same amount each time unless one of use has spent money that needs to be reimbursed. I write a paper check and have a prepared note of how I want my cash, the denominations and how many. Sometimes I'll even tell them I want a crisp bill if I'm getting money for a gift. Our bank branch is small so we've known the people there for years. I've received comments on the design of my notepaper. Now and then I've not sent a note with DH and they ask why he doesn't have one. LOL. I love living in a small town.
@JeanLouiseFinch I guess I am old school too. Since I know everyone at my small town bank...they actually know what amount of cash and the denominations I need before the check gets to them! 🤗. I might have to try the note sometime just to let them know how much I appreciate them.. I also love living in a small town.
