Absolutely. Michael Jordan recalled him to be "a mentor, my teacher, my second father."

Dean Smith was loved and respected not because he coached winning teams but because he was a man of ethics and moral courage.

It's always a victory for me when I remember why I entered a room.

I loved watching the Tarheels when he was coaching. He seemed to be so well respected. His players all seemed to look up to him too. I remember the championship game in 82 when Michael Jordan made the winning shot against Villanova to win the championship. The Tarheels were always amazing when he coached. Being from North Carolina, games were a big deal. He will be greatly missed. On my Facebook page today I saw a picture of Michael Jordan giving Dean Smith a kiss. He said he was his coach, his mentor, and second father. What powerful words about another person's character.

Three great North Carolina coaches... Dean Smith of UNC, Jim Valvano of NC State, and thankfully still with us, Mike Krzyzewski of Duke. We've had, and still have, some of the best!

Yes we do.
