I just saw a skit online that made me laugh. It's a young man responding to an annoying ( or worse) customer the way he would like. It is all funny , but my favorite is when the customer demands a manager, he responds " I would like to speak to your mother, she would be so embarrassed." When she asked if there was any more in the back, he replied " what do you think is in the back , Santa' workshop?" Before you say that this fellow is rude, try working with the public, it's not always pretty.

I worked with the public for years...I get it. It was a RUDE answer...but funny.

Re: Dealing with the public 😹

I have 23 years and counting in the hospitality industry. You would not believe what people give themselves permission to say to you or the tactics they use to get a dollar off their bill.

It's the joy of my life to tell them they should never make themselves so unhappy by continuing to aggravate themselves like this. I immediately cancel their account right in front of them so they can go hunt down a manager to explain why they need it reinstated, if they choose to do so. We have a 99.9% reinstatement rate.

I have zero repeat complaint customers after that until Spring comes and they try me all over again. Rack em up and let's play again! I'm at least getting paid to waste my time and their's, but I don't do abuse. Ever.

The best are the incensed customers every month who lose their access because they haven't paid their bills and demand to know why. I always ask who they're using for mortgage, electric, and water services because I want to keep my paycheck and live free from financial burdens too.

With the folks behind him in line laughing hysterically, the man glared at the United agent, gritted his teeth and swore "/F*** you!"
Without flinching, she smiled and said, "I'm sorry, sir, but you'll have to get in line for that, too."

😆😂😂😂😅...omg hysterical response from her!!!

@Laura14     I also worked for YEARS for a major worldwide hospitality brand.    They would have fired me on the spot if I treated a guest as you seem to do.

If you have an Instagram account, check out Max Farber (@farbsy). He's absolutely hilarious! Fair warning though - from time to time his language may be a bit salty. But it's still funny.

LOL!!! An old airline story from 20 years ago:

A crowded United Airlines flight was cancelled. A single agent was rebooking a long line of inconvenienced travellers. Suddenly, an angry passenger pushed his way to the desk front. He slapped his ticket on the counter and said, "I HAVE to be on this flight and it has to be FIRST CLASS." The agent replied, "I am sorry, sir. I'll be happy to try to help you, but I've got to help these folks first, and I'm sure we'll be able to work something out."

The passenger was unimpressed. He asked loudly, so that the passengers behind him could hear, "DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA WHO I AM?" Without hesitating, the agent smiled and grabbed her public address microphone: "May I have your attention, please," she began, her voice heard clearly throughout the terminal. "We have a passenger here at Gate 14 WHO DOES NOT KNOW WHO HE IS. If anyone can help him find his identity, please come to Gate 14."

With the folks behind him in line laughing hysterically, the man glared at the United agent, gritted his teeth and swore "/F*** you!"
Without flinching, she smiled and said, "I'm sorry, sir, but you'll have to get in line for that, too."

Many years ago, a friend worked for US air.  Always some rude passenger wanting this, that, me first, upgraded, etc, etc.  He was quite rude and pushy.  She did not get upset, she tried to be kind.  She wasn't going to let him upset her.  He was going to Europe, and she marked his luggage on a flight to China.  And, she wished him a good day.  Ok - so don't tick your airline agent off.......🤣 a true story.

Some of the rudest people that I've ever encountered are frequent flyers whose "space available" complimentary elite upgrades don't clear because there isn't space available! Flyertalk and Reddit are full of these whiners. I've gotten to the point where I don't rely on those upgrades and just purchase the premium cabin. I'm pretty high up in Delta's Medallion program, but for giggles and grins I keep an old Silver Medallion tag on my backpack, and do my best to keep it visible. I've actually had some of these special snowflakes demand to know how I got an upgrade when they, at a higher level, are still stuck in the coach seat that they actually paid for. It's hilarious to watch their meltdowns.

Well duh!  He was broke and starving because he'd just built a house and was driving a BMW.

It was a she who called. She worked for the state and her husband was a funeral director who owned his own business.  Adult daughter was grown and gone.

She was a kook.  She wrote me a letter complaining about my two sons who were 10 and 11 at the time saying they were throwing beer cans and used condoms in her yard in the middle of the night.

I can assure you they were in bed by 9:30 sleeping.  The letter was quite comical.  She even called my two sisters at work (family owned business) looking for me.

They told her I didn't work there and she didn't believe them.

Her husband was nutty too.  I think I posted the story here where he drove his car into me while I was standing on the street next to a curb talking with a friend and her aunt.

He didn't hurt me, but scared me out of my wits.  He came from behind me on the wrong side of the road and tapped me with his car.

He has since passed and she now lives with her daughter.  They were both crazy.

I was always glad she didn't catch my name when she called in  to the company I worked for.

Re: Dealing with the public 😹

If any of you are writing a book, I'd like to add a chapter or two or 6!  I have had many part time jobs in retail and have a lot of stories.

I now work part time at a local outlet in a beach town.  The tourists and those who have moved here full time are brutal.  My store sells a very well known cloth handbag and accessories.  You would think we are selling Chanel handbags.Woman Mad

They are now upset that we no longer allow extra discounts.  I very sweetly tell them to call Customer Service or the corporate office and write down the phone numbers on their receipts.  I'm too old for this.

I'm going to look for the video QVCkitty1 mentioned.

Re: Dealing with the public 😹

I worked at an international airport more years than I can count. I would often look at some people and wonder,  what's their story, why are they there.

My take, when you intentionally misdirect someone's luggage to China then you deserve at the least to be suspended. Not funny, no excuse. You don't lower yourself to someone else's level. You don't seek your own path of retribution. When you do, you demean yourself, and you've demeaned your employer.

When you work with the public you never know what's going on in someone's life. You may be in contact with them when they are going through some one the most difficult days of their life. We all handle difficulty differently. In some it brings out their worst. Empathy, even towards those that seem the least deserving, goes a long way.
