I was talking about the buildings in NY with fire escapes.


 


@Sage04 many older buildings still do have fire escapes.  Many.  I forgot what period they became obsolete.  I also recall them being in the front of buildings, but they are[were] considered ways that people could break in to an apartment.


@gertrudecloset   This is true but in this particular building it was too high to install fire escapes all the way to the top.  It was the early 1970's.

 

Buildings of a certain cap on height did have fire escapes but taller structures did not.
