Hi guys. Last year the IRS moved the deadline back a couple of months (or so) because of the pandemic.
Here we are, a year later, and the situation hasn't improved much. Does anyone know if the IRS is moving the deadline back again this year?

IRS site shows tomorrow as the start date to be able to file and the normal 4/15 deadline.
February 12. IRS begins 2021 tax season. Individual tax returns begin being accepted and processing begins.

No. Taxes are due April 15th.
What the IRS did change was the time in which you have to file. It's shorter this year. Starts in about 2 weeks so less than 2 months to file. I use a local independent accountant to file my taxes. We have an appointment scheduled for early March.

My tax accountant isn't taking appointments again this year. We simply drop our information off at his office and he and his partners complete the tax returns for clients. They call if they have questions, or call when it's finished for your signature and send all the documents to the proper places. It's really quick, safe for them and their clients. I like this procedure!

Our appointment with our accountant is next week. I'll bet other people over age 70 face the same issue we do in one minor area.
In 2020, due to perceived hardship created by the pandemic, the federal government cancelled the required annual minimum distribution from retirement accounts for people over a certain age..
We had already made taxable withdrawals from those accounts, but paid the money back into the funds when we learned about the exemption.
According to Form 1099 tax forms for 2020, received from our two fund custodians, we're still on the hook for tax on money we withdrew but paid back. To escape being taxed on that money, (which could bump us up into a higher tax bracket), we need to prove we paid it back to the custodial institutions, BUT an IRS form confirming this payback isn't due to be mailed out until May.
That's because so-called "rollover funds" and any other money can be deposited in retirement accounts through April 15. It's a messy item for us
I hope our accountant has an answer so we don't have to pay any more tax than we do already, when we don't even have the money being taxed.
Or we will have to file an amended return when the proper paperwork arrives in May which will be a pain in the rear end,

@novamc1 : You can request a 6 month extension with no additional charges as long as you pay what you will owe by April 15 th.

@BirkiLady : I've been doing our taxes remotely for 14 years ( accountant is in CA we are in AZ); we moved but this guy is great ( has other remote clients ).

I took everything to the accountant on Monday. I'm always early, but not this early. But I had received everything and there was no need to hold on to it. She only works 3 days a week so I wanted to go ahead and get everything in.
I have to file 2 returns this year. Our personal return and for my husbands estate. That one is an easy one, only involved one 1099.

I do our ( mine and DH) taxes myself along with my youngest sons, my sister and two older lady friends of mine.
I might get started this weekend. As far as I know, they must be filed by April 15th this year. I haven't heard about any extensions yet.

I did mine already and today I received email that my income tax had been accepted by the IRS and should expect my refund in 7-14 days
