Day Two With No Cigarettes, + Hospital Visit

[ Edited ]

I still haven't had a cigarette. I am going cold turkey. I have had momentarily cravings, but I really don't miss them.

Today I went to the hospital, because I can't seem to shake this bug.

I have had it for over nine days.

They took a chest x-ray, and everything came back clear.

The doctor gave me a script for Hydrocodone 325 mg.

15 tablets.

My cost?

$0.57

Wish my brother in law had quit. He died at 55.

@Plaid Pants2  Good for you, another day down without a cigarette.

I hope the meds will help you shake the bug and you will feel  good again real soon.

Re: Day Two With No Cigarettes, + Hospital Visit

I wish all the best for any smoker who quits. I quit in 1991 after years of it. DH quit a year earlier and I finally decided to go cold turkey. He set up a bank account in my name and put $20 a week in to cover about what I was spending on cigarettes at the time. If I quit for a year, I had $1000+ that I could spend on clothes. I made it. It happened at the same time our older daughter was getting married and I spent most of it for her at the flower shop. I'm glad we both quit. While I was smoking I never noticed how even my nice leather clothing smelled like an ashtray. Now I can't stand the smell of it.

Again wishing all who quit success. You'll feel so much better.

Congrats on your success!

I can't take hydro condone, it doesn't stay down. The other problem? It can tend to "stop you up" so you may want to plan ahead for that. I think there is a name for it, something like Opiate Induced Constipation or something. Quitting smoking has its own downside in that area . . .

Are you in a ton of pain from coughing?

When I had knee and shoulder surgeries, I had that and had to take benedryl because I got itchy from taking it. The benedryl helped.

@Plaid Pants2   Keep plugging away.   The first 3-4 days are the worst,  then it gradually gets better.   I quit cold turkey in 1985, and a good friend advised me to never take another puff because I was an addict and it would trigger an urge to start again.   For once,  I took someone's advice and it worked well for me.   Under some circumstances,  I still occasionally get the urge but as fast as it pops in my head,  it goes away.

All I have to do to stay smoke - free,  is remember my many friends who've died of smoking related illnesses.
