My head said Bristol Stomp, but, my fingers didn't.
Oh course there was the jitterbug and the Bunny Hop. I'm really dating myself.
One of the original regulars, Pat Moliterri, was the best dancer on the show. There wasn't any dance she couldn't do.

I remember a girl named Carmen that Dlck Clark would mention a lot.

The things that I remember were the school uniforms! ****** Clark and I think Bobbie Rydel I was young and had a rag doll to dance with. My young mother would be ironing! My mother sewed elastic to the arms and the feet of the rag doll so I could dance! Imagine, my daughter, (bless her heart), and I am a Jersey girl, can't even sew a button. I remember the "locomotion" I guess from bandstand. I am 70 and I cross paths with at least 10 people who danced on the show, three regularly. One took the bus from Camden! The others all Philly kids, now living at the shore.

Yes, I remember Carmen and her sister, Yvette.

Such fun memories! I used to practice with Bandstand and sometimes kids in the neighborhood would gather at my house, boys and girls learning together. Good form mattered!

Oh yes, I remember many of the dances mentioned. In our area of Maryland, we pretty much stuck to our own free-expression brand of dancing to rock and roll but did imitate some of the dance moves we saw on "American Bandstand."
Like Mersha, who mentioned her local "American Bandstand" equivalent, I'm hoping that someone else also watched "The Milt Grant Show," which was broadcast from Washington, D.C. Kids in nearby towns in Maryland and Virginia were thrilled to have something like what the kids in Philly had.
When I was 15, I went to a broadcast of "The Milt Grant Show" but did not dance. My older brother had just formed his first band and was asked to perform on the show. I tagged along. Of course, I was thrilled for him to play on the popular teen show, but I was so excited to see and hear the stars who were also performing on the show that day, Mickey & Sylvia. Anyone remember their hit "Love Is Strange"?

I don't want to sound corny BUT those were the days my friend, those were the days. Oh, the memories of good clean fun and innocence. We, of that generation were the lucky ones, at least I believe it.

So, how did one actually get into the broadcast?
Did they just take a random number of kids each day?
What a fun memory...and I'd have done the same thing.
Lucky you!
