@conlt Were you "discharged" because you took FMLA? I thought that was illegal  (discharging because of FMLA).

I get mad just reading the posts about how Dan should "just get over it.". I gave my heart and soul to a nursing job that I loved for 38 years. When my mother was dying, and died, and I got back from the FMLA leave, I as discharged.

I had just lost my mother and I was a 61 year old nurse. I can tell you, it is not easy to just "pick up, get over it, and get another job.". Try it if you think it is easy.

I lost my seniority, my health insurance, my income, my other benefits. I had to liquidate retirement savings. Never mind the emotional toll losing a job of that long takes on a person. I had high anxiety, I thought I would be in trouble if the least little thing went wrong at work, I felt worthless, useless, not valued.

Thank God a company did take me in and I still work there but for a fraction of what I used to make.

I do not know Dan's money circumstances but regardless, losing a job like he did affects the mind and soul. Shame on people for minimizing the effects of losing a job on a person. I was scared to death, I had not applied for a job in over 38 years.

My mother just died and the entire thing sunk me into a depression.

Please be understanding and kind to people in this situation. We do not understand how they feel.

I am now 4 years past this experience, I am on Medicare now, so that was a relief. I am just starting to feel better after much turmoil, self-doubt, extreme pain and counseling.

I will most likely work longer because I have to try and recoup money that I lost. I am not married, so it is only me. Very, very scary situation. There were times that I thought that I would die.

I feel sorry for all that lost their jobs here on QVC and anywhere else. It is easy for the young to bounce back but not the middle to senior age people.

I find it a bit odd that people were worried about the finances of Dan and Carolyn, even Antonella.  They likely made more money per year than many of the people on this forum.  It is everyone's responsibility to live within their means and plan for unexpected disruptions in income.

Of course not all things can be avoided.  COVID hit many businesses very hard, including the business my husband and I run together.  PPP money was not enough.  We managed to get through, though our business will never be the same.  Our income will never be what it was, so we have both taken second jobs.  We don't expect anyone to feel sorry for us, or worry about our income.  We certainly did not start a go fund me page to collect money from strangers.

Truth is, I don't care whether Dan, Carolyn or Antonella are "fine."  If they are, great.  If they aren't, well, make adjustments and do what you have to do, just like so many other people that have financial set backs.

Always remember that you are absolutely unique. Just like everyone else. Margaret Mead

@Puppy Lips

Other hosts better take note and stop telling us they "buy one of each ( of ten) color or style or flavor"...

Better save SOMETHING for that rainy day....!!!!

😇 I'm fortunate to work in a hospital that values it's long time employees and the knowledge and experience that we can pass on to others. Job security in the workplace is truly a wonderful feeling.

I can't imagine being unceremoniously "dumped" because management has deemed you too old/no longer relevant.

After Antonella was diagnosed with cancer, I wonder if QVC reached out and offered her any help, or even moral support?

Bottom line, QVC can't hold any of their fired show hosts responsible for lost revenues. They're still losing money, and it's time to grill the execs about what they are doing wrong.

💕 My heart really goes out to you. Losing our Moms is one of life's greatest losses. Whether it be a loving relationship or otherwise, there is no relationship in life like that between a mother and her daughter.

And to have an employer toss you out like yesterday's garbage is absolutely unforgivable as far as I'm concerned.

I know that there is a Guardian Angel sitting on your shoulder, guiding you along life's unpredictable path. In time your experience will hopefully be just a memory, and you will find the peace you so well deserve.

Qurate absolutely is not "losing money".  More mistruths, misrepresentations and myths being perpetuated.

Yes, operating revenue has declined,  but so have operating expenses in, (aided in part by the large layoffs in February), allowing the generation of positive operating income.

Operating Income:

3 months ended 6/30/2023:  positive $366 million

6 months ended 6/30/2023:  positive $542 million

Some of those who are saying that seem as if they want it to be true. If they don't understand, they could ask.

@THEY CallMe Mr Wilkes

Isn't that like saying I have 500 dollars in my pocket, but I cut off my leg below the knee and I'm bleeding out? If that loss isn't stopped, that "income" isn't gonna last long!!!!

They lost hundreds of thousands of customers comparing the last  12 month periods...that is not sustainable.

They got some, and are counting, insurance from that fire( 225 million) increased shipping costs and escalated prices, but customers who leave don't buy. They are obviously balking at paying the prices for the items offered.

And the stockprice....OY!!!   They are losing millions  in market cap every hour.

So YES thier income on paper may be increased over the last year, but how can that be sustained as customers leave in droves...?

I highly doubt we're going to see a like increase in customer numbers going forward. Just too many better/different and more convenient choices out there.

And, they are depending on shopping via viewers, even they admit those numbers are declining as linear TV dries up.

Of course, it COULD happen. Look at Radio Shack....still limping along like a zombie looking for a cash infusion....!!!

Just a quick quiz....How many folks do ANY of you know personally who still shop regularly- if at all- on QVC or HSN?

I know none. In fact, the usual response is "What's that?" or" Are they still on the air?"  And I've bought a LOT from them over time, told people where I got the stuff, still not buying there.

Or...they could have another fire!!!.....From thier latest report:

"In the second quarter of 2023, QxH received a final payment of $225 million of insurance proceeds related to the December 2021 fire at Rocky Mount, primarily business interruption proceeds, for an aggregate of $660 million proceeds received".
