Per the physicians at UCMC, Damar’s breathing tube was removed overnight. He continues to progress remarkably in his recovery. His neurologic function remains intact and he has been able to talk to his family and care team.

Why is it, when I have a 50/50 guess at something, I'm always 100% wrong?

From yahoo:

The Bills said on Twitter that Hamlin even joined the Friday morning team meeting by FaceTime, and told them “love you boys.” In a statement, the team said Hamlin’s “neurologic function remains intact and he has been able to talk to his family and care team.”

FANTASTIC NEWS.....the power of prayer!  The medical staff and team were amazing on how they administered to Hamlin so quickly on the field.....Continued prayers for Damar for a full  and complete recovery 🙏

I doubt any nfl team would want the liability of encouraging him to go on the field again to play pro football. I understand the nfl does not have very good healthcare benefits after you quit playing or retire...it's five years.,,there is a group that is trying to get lifetime healthcare for retired or former players, especially if they can't play again due to injury while playing football. Perhaps he could do something else off the field, but they should at least pay his healthcare expensive for sure.

Former Redskin John Riggins and his wife who is an attorney are working on getting retired NFL players better health benefits ...

What fantastic news!

Even if Damar cannot play anymore, the least his team can do for him is to give him a job.  And pay his ongoing medical expenses.  He could coach, scout, etc.

The money these team owners make is beyond belief.  Time to take care of their own.  My humble opinion, of course.  I have never understood why some with huge fortunes don’t share.

Life is short.  You can’t take it with you.

The NFL did that with Daryl Stingly who was paralyzed because of a hit and a spinal cord injury in 1978. The NFL rules were changed for player safety. Darryl  regained limited movement in his right arm but remained a paraplegic, he was 26 when this incident happened and he passed away in 2007 at age 55

The NFL agreed to pay for all of Stingly's medical bills for the rest of his life, and also his and his 4 children's education . Stingly received his Bachelors Degree from Purdue University in 1992.

Couldn't be happier for him, his family and team.

Pray that he continues to make progress.

Don't overlook the power of medical science.  From the assistant trainer who worked on him on the field to his medical team in the hospital.  His physical condition due to his career also made a huge difference.  I'm so relieved and happy that he seems to be on the road to recovery.  The fact that he virtually joined the team meeting this morning is amazing.

He may not have had a heartbeat for 8 min, reportedly, but with immediate care on the field & no delay, if he was aerated, properly, which I assume he was, his brain was spared. They will do extensive testing on his heart to determine if any damage. He most likely, was given the drugs commonly used during an arrest to minimize damage to the heart.

I hope he gets progressively better each day & able to resume a normal life with no restrictions. Hopefully, he can attend some Bills games from the sideline this year.

@hckynutjohn - most persons who have a cardiac arrest outside of the hospital do not have immediate care or from experienced trauma physicians. He got the best of care & that will make a big difference in outcome.

It will all depend on the condition of his heart pre injury. I just don’t feel he had an undiagnosed cardiac condition because his recovery is nothing short of miraculous. He was in a medically induced coma to rest his heart & lungs & was weaned off the respirator, given lower percentage of oxygen & extubated in a short time from the incident & that gives me optimism about his recovery with minimal damage. I hope I'm right
