Dallas Police Officer Amber Guyger Found Guilty

According to the news reports, " Dallas police officer Amber Guyger, in a rare occurrence, was found Guilty of murdering her neighbor Botham Jean".

I must say that past cases involving police officers charged with murder have resulted in Not Guilty verdicts. The family cant't bring their son back but there is finally some degree of justice in this case.

Thank goodness, the jury made the right decision.  I was actually thinking she might be charged on manslaugher but if the verdict is for murder so much the better.  Didn't believe her for a minute.

This case is much different.  She did not shoot Mr. Jean while she was on duty.  At at the time  of the shooting she was Joan Q citizen who just happened to be armed.

She was not responding to a call and there was no criminal activity going on.  In past cases, the charges have involved a fatal shooting while the PO was working.

Thanks @Carmie for pointing out the differences between the cases...the friends that I have on the force say that a police officer is never off duty!!!

It puzzled me she didn't recognize the furniture wasn't hers when she opened the door.  That's the first thing I'd notice.

Did anyone ask her that question?

I believe the jury made the right decision. I hope she gets at least 20 years.

I guess it's been covered, but I've missed it.  Her keys fit his door also?  Seems odd to me.

Good! I was incredibly nervous after the judge gave them directions allowing them to consider the Castle Doctrine. What a load of BS that was! The Castle Doctrine would have applied to HIM, the person in the home, not her, the intruder. No amount of belief in her head made that her home.

Krimpette,

I read this many months ago, but for some reason (fate?), the victim's door was ajar.

Still, as others have wondered, didn't she notice the red mat outside his door (she had no red mat outside her door)?  That should have been her first alert that she was not at her apartment.  How about different furnishings?  Who doesn't know when she is in an apartment that is not her own?

If she was "high" and/or distracted by messages of a sexual nature from a fellow police officer (who was married to someone else), she acted on impulse and with no rational thinking going on.   Supposedly she was involved in a hot affair with this officer.

@Krimpette   His door was unlocked and slightly ajar.  His door knob was broken and needed to be jiggled and slammed for the door to stay closed.

There were also people who lived in that building that testified that their keys opened other tenants doors.
