If you look for the light side in all things, you will keep yourself alive
and healthy.
Lord, may I be able to see the good in my experiences, even in my most
challenging
moments.
Scripture for the day:
"We are not among those who shrink back and so are lost, but among those who
have faith and so are saved." ~Hebrews 10:39
Meditation for the day:
There are two things that are most helpful if we are going to change our way
of life. One is faith, the confidence in things unseen, the fundamental
goodness and purpose in the universe. The other is obedience: that is,
living according to our faith, living each day as we believe that God wants
us to live, with gratitude, humility, honesty, purity, unselfishness and
love. Faith and obedience, these two, will give us all the strength we need
to overcome sin and temptation and to live a new and more abundant life.
Prayer for the day:
I pray that I may have the kind of faith that helps me be obedient. I pray
that I may live a more abundant life as a result of these things.
Greetings my friends! We had snow again today - just about an inch. But I
think the roads were okay to Mpls. Lori and a friend went to see Lion King.
We did some cleaning today, and I had Linus move the Health Rider to the
garage - it's in the way in the guest bedroom, and I'll go out there to use
it every other day - our garage is heated to around 40 degrees. I just have
to make it into my schedule so I don't forget. At my age, making a list of
things to do works well. Tonight we had a late office Christmas party -
Northern Tool - at someone's house. What a house! They built it and designed
it and it's gorgeous! And they did a lot of work on it themselves. She
doing all the artistic paintings on the walls! We had a nice house tour.
It's a big house. The party was in their heated garage. Lots of good food,
and games were played for prizes. For a gift from Northern Tool everyone
also got a $20.00 gift card for our supermarket. Didn't have that last
year. So far no plans for tomorrow besides our Mass - we'll just let God
plan our day!
Finders Keepers
A wise woman who was travelling in the mountains found a precious stone in a
stream. The next day she met another traveller who was hungry, and the wise
woman opened her bag to share her food. The hungry traveller saw the
precious stone and asked the woman to give it to him. She did so without
hesitation.
The traveller left, rejoicing in his good fortune. He knew the stone was
worth enough to give him security for a lifetime. But a few days later he
came back to return the stone to the wise woman. "I've been thinking," he
said, "I know how valuable the stone is, but I give it back in the hope that
you can give me something even more precious: Give me what you have within
you that enabled you to give me the stone."
Prayer:
Grant O Lord, My God, a mind to know you,
a heart to seek you,
wisdom to find you,
conduct pleasing to you,
faithful perseverance in waiting for you
and a hope of finally embracing you.

Acts 20:35 - (Jesus said) "There is more happiness in giving than in
receiving."
Once Upon A Pew I Sat
Once upon a pew I sat And heard the preacher ask,
"We need someone to teach a class, Now who will take this task?"
Then God sat down beside me there And said, "Son, that's for you."
"But, Lord, to stand before a class Is one thing I can't do.
Now Bill would be the man to call, There's nothing he won't do.
I'd rather hear the lesson taught From here upon my pew."
Once upon a pew I sat And heard the preacher ask, "We need someone to
lead the songs, Now who will take this task?"
Then God sat down beside me there And said, "Son, that's for you."
"But Lord, to sing before a crowd Is one thing I can't do.
Now Brother King will do the job, There's nothing he won't do.
I'd rather hear the music played From here upon my pew."
Once upon a pew I sat And heard the preacher ask, "I need someone to
keep the door, Now who will take this task?"
Then God sat down beside me there And said, "Son, that's for you."
"But saying things to strangers, Lord, Is one thing I can't do.
Now Tom can talk to people, Lord, There's nothing he won't do.
I'd rather someone come to me And greet me on the pew."
As years just seemed to pass me by, I heard that voice no more.
Until one night I closed my eyes And woke on heaven's shore.
'Twas four of us together there To face eternity.
God said, "I need just three of you To do a job for me."
"O Lord, I cried, "I'll do the job, There's nothing I won't do."
But Jesus said, "I'm sorry, Friend, In Heaven there's no pew."

(This piece reminds me of when we had our beloved priest, Father Landelin -
when he asked for someone to lead songs for daily Mass, I felt the nudge and
did for seven years until he left - I picked them out, and he announced them
and started singing them from my pew.) Forgot about that until reading
this.) He is now in Heaven.

Acts 20:35 - (Jesus said) "There is more happiness in giving than in
receiving."
One stormy night many years ago, an elderly man and
his wife entered the lobby of a small hotel in
Philadelphia. Trying to get out of the rain, the
couple approached the front desk hoping to get some
shelter for the night.
"Could you possibly give us a room here?" the husband
asked. The clerk, a friendly man with a winning smile,
looked at the couple and explained that there were
three conventions in town.
"All of our rooms are taken," the clerk said. "But I
can't send a nice couple like you out into the rain at
one o'clock in the morning. Would you perhaps be
willing to sleep in my room? It's not exactly a
suite,
but it will be good enough to make you folks
comfortable for the night."
When the couple declined, the young man pressed on.
"Don't worry about me; I'll make out just fine," the
clerk told them. So the couple agreed.
As he paid his bill the next morning, the elderly man
said to the clerk, "You are the kind of manager who
should be the boss of the best hotel in the United
States. Maybe someday I'll build one for you."
The clerk looked at them and smiled. The three of
them had a good laugh.
As they drove away, the elderly couple agreed that
the helpful clerk was indeed exceptional, as finding
people who are both friendly and helpful isn't easy.
Two years passed. The clerk had almost forgotten the
incident when he received a letter from the old man.
It recalled that stormy night and enclosed a
round-trip ticket to New York, asking the young man to
pay them a visit.
The old man met him in New York, and led him to the
corner of Fifth Avenue and 34th Street. He then
pointed to a great new building there, a palace of
reddish stone, with turrets and watchtowers thrusting
up to the sky.
"That," said the older man, "is the hotel I have just
built for you to manage."
"You must be joking," the young man said.
"I can assure you I am not," said the older man, a sly
smile playing around his mouth.
The older man's name was William Waldorf Astor, and
the magnificent structure was the original
Waldorf-Astoria Hotel.
The young clerk who became its first manager was
George C. Boldt. This young clerk never foresaw the
turn of events that would lead him to become the
manager of one of the world's most glamorous hotels.
The Bible says that we are not to turn our backs on
those who are in need, for we might be entertaining
angels.
Life is more accurately measured by the lives you
touch than the things you acquire...
God Bless You & Yours.
May your Sunday be blessed as you keep Holy the Lord's Day! Many blessings
to be counted - even in every day things. God bless you!
