Hello my friends! Thanks to Cakers for starting last night's thread! Thanks for all of you who posted - so much appreciated! Got home around noon today - was very surprised that Cakers didn't get the email with the thread I sent, but I'll send it here, no problem at all. We had a very nice visit with our friends in Duluth - went to Mass and their prayer meeting, and so it was a very spirit-filled evening. This morning after Mass we met with someone at the Cathedral there who wants to put Lighthouse CD's etc. in their Church. So it was a business trip, along with fun. Today is Mary's Feast Day - The Feast of the Assumption where she was taken up to Heaven body and soul. Big Feast Day! Praying for you all! We prayed the Rosary on the way - you were all included. Now here's the missing thread, not missing anymore.
Whatever your problem, know that there is a solution. Lord, I trust
in You always even to the point of a miracle.
Scripture for the day:
"I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers,
nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor
depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us
from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord." ~Romans 8:38-39
Meditation for the day:
God is our helper and our strength. We need not ask God to come to
us. God is always with us in spirit. At our moment of need God is
there to help us. If we knew God's love and God's desire to help us,
we would know that God needs no pleading for help. Our need is God's
opportunity. We can learn to rely on God's strength whenever we need
it. Whenever we feel inadequate to any situation, we can realize that
the feeling of inadequacy is, in its own way, disloyalty to God. We
can say to ourselves: I know that God is with me and will help me to
think and say and do the right thing.
Prayer for the day:
I pray that I may never feel inadequate to any situation. I pray that
I may be buoyed up by the feeling that God is always with me.
Pedro
Pedro was driving down the street in a panic because he had an important
meeting and couldn't find a parking place. Looking up toward heaven, he
said "Lord, take pity on me. If you find me a parking place I will go to
Church every Sunday for the rest of my life and give up tequila."
Miraculously, a parking place appeared.
Pedro looked up again and said, "Never mind. I found one."
Be thankful everyday and please, for God's sake, don't be a Pedro.

The above is only a joke, but it is too true as it is funny. Many people
find it very difficult to be thankful. Yet, the Bible repeatedly tells us
to be thankful in everything. We should be "filled with thanksgiving."
(Colossians 2:7)
Rather than finding something to complain about, we should find something to
be thankful for. There is always something in life for which to thank God;
"In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, always give thanks for everything to
God the Father." (Ephesians 5:20)

Thank you Lord for all that grows,
Thank you for the sky's rainbows,
Thank you for the stars that shine,
Thank you for these friends of mine,
Thank you for the moon and sun,
Thank you Lord for all you've done!
LISTEN TO ME

Effective immediately, please be aware that there are changes YOU need
to make in YOUR life. These changes need to be completed in order that
I may fulfill My promises to you to grant you peace, joy and happiness
in this life. I apologize for any inconvenience, but after all that I
am doing, this seems very little to ask of you. I know, I already gave
you the 10 Commandments. Keep them. But follow these guidelines,
also:
1. QUIT WORRYING
Life has dealt you a blow and all you do is sit and worry. Have you
forgotten that I am here to take all your burdens and carry them for
you? Or do you just enjoy fretting over every little thing that comes
your way?
2. PUT IT ON THE LIST
Something needs to be done or taken care of. Put it on the list. No,
not YOUR list. Put it on MY to-do-list. Let ME be the one to take care
of the problem. I can't help you until you turn it over to Me. And
although My to-do-list is long, I am after all... God. I can take care
of anything you
put into My hands. In fact, if the truth were ever really known, I
take care of a lot of things for you that you never even realize.
3. TRUST ME
Once you've given your burdens to Me, quit trying to take them back.
Trust in Me. Have the faith that I will take care of all your needs.
YOUR problems and your trials. Problems with the kids? Put them on My
list. Problem with finances? Put it on My list. Problems with your
emotional roller coaster? For My sake, put it on My list. I want to
help you. All you have to do is ask.
4. LEAVE IT ALONE
Don't wake up one morning and say, "Well, I'm feeling much stronger
now, I think I can handle it from here." Why do you think you are
feeling stronger now? It's simple. You gave Me your burdens and I'm
taking care of them. I also renew your strength and cover you in my
peace. Don't you know that if I give you these problems back, you will
be right back where you started?
Leave them with Me and forget about them. Just let Me do my job.
5. TALK TO ME
I want you to forget a lot of things. Forget what was making you
crazy. Forget the worry and the fretting because you know I'm in
control. But there's one thing I pray you never forget. Please, don't
forget to talk to Me - OFTEN! I love YOU! I want to hear your voice. I
want you to include Me
in on the things going on in your life. I want to hear you talk about
your friends and family. Prayer is simply you having a conversation
with Me. I want to be your dearest friend.
6. HAVE FAITH
I see a lot of things from up here that you can't see from where you
are. Have faith in Me that I know what I'm doing. Trust Me; you
wouldn't want the view from My eyes. I will continue to care for you,
watch over you, and meet your needs. You only have to trust Me.
Although I have a much bigger task than you, it seems as if you have
so much trouble just doing your simple part. How hard can trust be?
7. SHARE
You were taught to share when you were only two years old. When did
you forget? That rule still applies. Share with those who are less
fortunate than you. Share your joy with those who need encouragement.
Share your laughter with those who haven't heard any in such a long
time. Share your tears with those who have forgotten how to cry. Share
your faith with those who have none.
8. BE PATIENT
I managed to fix it so in just one lifetime you could have so many
diverse experiences. You grow from a child to an adult, have children,
change jobs many times, learn many trades, travel to so many places,
meet thousands of people, and experience so much. How can you be so
impatient then when it takes Me a little longer than you expect to
handle something on My to-do-list? Trust in My timing, for My timing
is perfect. Just because I created the entire universe in only six
days, everyone thinks I should always rush, rush, rush.
9. BE KIND
Be kind to others, for I love them just as much as I love you. They
may not dress like you, or talk like you, or live the same way you do,
but I still love you all. Please try to get along, for My sake. I
created each of you different in some way. It would be too boring if
you were all identical.
Please, know I love each of your differences.
10. LOVE YOURSELF
As much as I love you, how can you not love yourself? You were created
by me for one reason only -- to be loved, and to love in return. I am
a God of Love. Love Me. Love your neighbors. But also love yourself.
It makes My heart ache when I see you so angry with yourself when
things go wrong. You are very precious to Me. Don't ever forget that!
With all my heart, I love YOU!
GOD
HAVE YOU SHARPENED YOUR AXE?
Author Unknown
A young man approached the foreman of a logging crew and asked for a
job.
"That depends," replied the foreman. "Let's see you fell this tree."
The young man stepped forward and skillfully felled a great tree.
Impressed, the foreman exclaimed, "You can start Monday."
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday rolled by. Thursday afternoon the
foreman approached the young man and said, "You can pick up your
paycheck on the way out today."
Startled, the young man replied, "I thought you paid on Friday."
"Normally we do," said the foreman. "But we're letting you go today
because you've fallen behind. Our daily felling charts show that
you've dropped from first place on Monday to last place today."
"But I'm a hard worker," the young man objected. "I arrive first,
leave last and even have worked through my coffee breaks!"
The foreman, sensing the young man's integrity, thought for a minute
and then asked, "Have you been sharpening your axe?"
The young man replied, "No sir, I've been working too hard to take
time for that!"
Our lives are like that. We sometimes get so busy that we don't take
time to "sharpen the axe" In today's world, it seems that everyone is
busier than ever but less happy than ever. Why is that? Could it be
that we have forgotten how to stay sharp?
There's nothing wrong with activity and hard work. But God doesn't
want us to get so busy that we neglect the truly important things in
life, like taking time to pray, to read and study scripture or to
listen to "the still small voice of God."
We all need time to relax, to think and meditate, to learn and grow.
If we don't take time to sharpen the axe, we will become dull and lose
our effectiveness. Take time today to sharpen your axe!
EVERY DAY PRAYER
Every Day I need thee Lord,
This day especially
I need some extra strength to face
Whatever is to be
This day more than any day
I need to feel thee near
To fortify my courage
And overcome my fears
By myself I cannot meet the challenges of the hour
There are times when human creatures need a higher power
To bear what must be borne
And so dear Lord I pray
Hold on to my trembling hand
And be with me Today
Amen

Value and Reward
A quality you should always look for in the people you allow to join you on
your journey is loyalty. Although this alone does not ensure success in
another person, a lack of loyalty is sure to ruin your relationship with
him/her.
Think of it this way: When you're looking for someone with a potential to
lead, you want them to be loyal, and if someone you are considering taking
on the
journey with you does not posses loyalty don't even consider taking them
with you
because in the end they'll hurt you more than they'll help you. So what does
it mean for others to be loyal to you?
They love you unconditionally. They accept you with all your strengths and
all your weaknesses intact. They genuinely care for you, not just for what
you can do for them.
They represent you well to others. Loyal people always paint a positive
picture of you with others. They may take you to task privately or hold you
accountable, but they never criticize you to others.
They are able to laugh and cry with you as you travel together. Loyal people
are willing and able to share your joys and sorrows. They make the trip less
lonely.
They make your dreams their dreams. Some people will undoubtedly share the
journey with you only briefly. You help one another for a while and then go
your separate ways. But a few a Special Few---will want to come alongside
you and
help you for the rest of the journey. Cherish these people for they are the
ones
that make your dreams their dreams for a life time. If you find people like
that take good care of them because they are marked on your road map for
success.
Do you inspire loyalty anyone? Show gratitude to the loyal people in your
inner circle today. Have a wonderful weekend and cherish the loyal people
that are in your life today. Be blessed!
Prayer to Our Lady, Assumed to Heaven:
"La Asuncion de la Virgen". Rubens circa. 1626
Immaculate Virgin, Mother of Jesus and our Mother,
we believe in your triumphant Assumption into Heaven
where the angels and saints acclaim you as Queen.
We join them in praising you and bless the Lord who raised you above all creatures.
With them we offer you our devotion and love.
We are confident that you watch over our daily efforts and needs,
and we take comfort from the faith in the coming resurrection.
We look to you, our life, our sweetness, and our hope.
After this earthly life, show us Jesus, the blest fruit of your womb,
O kind, O loving, O sweet virgin Mary.

August 15
Solemnity of the Assumption of Mary
On November 1, 1950, Pius XII defined the Assumption of Mary to be a dogma of faith: “We pronounce, declare and define it to be a divinely revealed dogma that the immaculate Mother of God, the ever Virgin Mary, having completed the course of her earthly life, was assumed body and soul to heavenly glory.” The pope proclaimed this dogma only after a broad consultation of bishops, theologians and laity. There were few dissenting voices. What the pope solemnly declared was already a common belief in the Catholic Church.
We find homilies on the Assumption going back to the sixth century. In following centuries the Eastern Churches held steadily to the doctrine, but some authors in the West were hesitant. However, by the 13th century there was universal agreement. The feast was celebrated under various names (Commemoration, Dormition, Passing, Assumption) from at least the fifth or sixth century. Today it is celebrated as a solemnity.
Scripture does not give an account of Mary’s Assumption into heaven. Nevertheless, Revelation 12 speaks of a woman who is caught up in the battle between good and evil. Many see this woman as God’s people. Since Mary best embodies the people of both Old and New Testament, her Assumption can be seen as an exemplification of the woman’s victory.
Furthermore, in 1 Corinthians 15:20 Paul speaks of Christ’s resurrection as thefirstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.
Since Mary is closely associated with all the mysteries of Jesus’ life, it is not surprising that the Holy Spirit has led the Church to belief in Mary’s share in his glorification. So close was she to Jesus on earth, she must be with him body and soul in heaven.
