Daily Positive Thread for Friday

Our words are powerful tools and can influence even when we are not aware.
Lord, help me to speak with kindness and sensitivity and to be a positive
source of encouragement and support to others.

Scripture for the day:

"Do you not know that you are God's temple and that God's Spirit dwells in
you?" ~1 Corinthians 3:16

Meditation for the day:

God is all around us. God's spirit pervades the universe. And yet we often
do not let God's spirit in. We sometimes try to get along without God's
help and we make a mess of our lives. We can do nothing of any value
without God's help. All our human relationships depend on this. When we
let God's spirit rule our lives, we can learn how to get along with others
and how to help them.

Prayer for the day:

I pray that I may let God run my life. I pray that I will never again make
a mess of my life through trying to run it myself.

Hello my friends! Today was a great day - we went the hour and a half trip
to see my sister, Deil, and picked up Sammy. He was very happy to see us,
and very happy to get in the car to go home, although he was no problem
there at all - and Deil enjoyed him a lot. Deil's neighbor, Monica, came
over every day and walked him - and helped Deil take care of him, because
she likes him too. So Sammy got spoiled - it's so nice to have him home
again! Deil made a really good casserole with chicken in it and noodles,
the sauce was with mayo and some vinegar, I think she said some red wine
vinegar - I'll call her for the recipe. She's the pie baker, you know -
today it was strawberry pie and she also made bread pudding! We gave her a
bottle of cranberry wine and we tasted it with our lunch - it's delicious!
Deil told us that last night her son called her to tell her to keep October
13th open, why? That's when they plan to have her 90th birthday party!
Last night I just finished this thread and I got a phone call from Sister
LaDonna - I plum forgot it was Tuesday night and my turn to call her! Could
be because us coming home only late Monday night I thought it was Monday!
Anyway had a nice visit with her - as always. She is very busy there -
doing all sorts of things. Her homemade all occasion cards she makes on the
computer are being sold at their Gift Shop! She was told she's very
talented - and she sure is! Got two birthday cards today from two of my
sisters, one being Deil. The other was Erma and she wrote she'll be coming
back to her apt. next Monday - still in rehab.

Knowing Christ

Some years ago a famous actor was at a party and was asked by the guests to
do a recitation for them. He asked if there were anything special they
would like to hear, and an old minister asked for psalm 23 - "The Lord is my
Shepherd" psalm. A strange look came over the actor's face. He paused for
a moment and then said, "I'll do it on one condition: that after I have
recited it, you, my friend, will do the same."

"I" said the preacher in surprise. "I am not a professional speaker. But,
if you wish, I shall recite it too."

So the actor recited with all the finesse of his trade and held the audience
spellbound. The old man stood up and recited the psalm with a weak wavering
voice. But when he sat down, there was not a dry eye in the room.

Then the actor rose with his own voice quivering. "Ladies and gentlemen,"
he commented, "I reached your eyes and ears; but he has reached your hearts.
The difference is just this: I know the psalm. But he knows the shepherd."

Holy Are Your Ways

Help me to understand, Lord,
that what counts is not the road traveled,
but simply putting my hand in yours
and journeying side by side with you, Lord Jesus --
O you who are the joy of my journey
and also the repose in the Father's home!
Holy, holy is the Lord, for eternal is His love.

ANSWERED PRAYER!

I asked God for strength, that I might achieve;
I was made weak, that I might learn humbly to obey.
I asked for health that I might do great things;
I was given sickness that I might do better things.
I asked for riches, that I might be happy;
I was given poverty, that I might be wise.
I asked for power, that I might have the praise of men;
I was given weakness, that I might feel the need for God.
I asked for all things, that I might enjoy life;
I was given life, that I might enjoy all things.
I received nothing I asked for - but everything I hoped for.
Almost despite myself, my unspoken prayer was answered;
I am, among all men, most richly blessed.

I recently came across this story ( author unknown ) which really touched
me and I would like to
share it with you.

It was an unseasonably hot day. Everybody it seemed was looking for some
kind of relief, so an ice cream store was a natural place to stop.

A little girl, clutching her money tightly, entered the store.

Before she could say a word, the store clerk sharply told her to get outside
and read the sign on the door, and stay out until she put on some shoes.

She left slowly and a big man followed her out of the store.

He watched as she stood in front of the store and read the sign
" No Bare Feet".

Tears started rolling down her cheeks as she turned and walked away.

Just then the big man called to her.

Sitting down on the curb, he took off his size 12 shoes and set them in
front of the girl saying
" Here, you won't be able to walk in these, but if you sort of slide along,
you can get your ice cream cone".

Then he lifted the little girl up and set her feet into the shoes.
" Take your time", he said " I get tired of moving them around and it'll
feel good to just sit here and eat my ice cream".

The shining eyes of the little girl could not be missed as she shuffled up
to the counter and ordered her
ice cream cone.

He was a big man all right.

Big belly, big shoes, but most of all, he had a big heart.

Sharing and caring give joy to life !
