Your mother was lucky to have you. I have a brother and sister close by and we can share the responsibilities. I don't know how people do this without siblings or someone else to help.
Although my mom is still in her apartment she has to be taken to anywhere she has to go as she doesn't drive and never has. While she is fairly spry for her age we have noticed quite a change in her thinking this past year. Between both parents we keep pretty busy. My siblings and I are all 65 or older and each of us are starting to have our own health issues. Thankfully when 1 or 2 of us is down, one is still standing! Sometimes I think they may outlive us!

@jubilant, I don't think that those who insist that children can and should be able to do it all for their parents consider the "child's" age enough. Many times those 60-65 and older are slowing down and have health concerns of their own, never mind often less stamina altogether. It's not like 30 year olds trying to do the same thing.
