@deepwaterdotter  Just a sad situation and I was prompted to write my post after reading @Stray 's and @RescueLover 's  post.

Edited to say, this is in no way a political post. I don't know much about FEMA and I have no interests for or against it or any political party affiliated or not affiliated with it....Just writing from the heart and what my feelings would be if I were in this terrible situation....whew!

We just got power back yesterday at 5pm.  We had been without since the 26th due to a massive tree taking a power line down after we had already lost electricity in the community.  That meant we had to have repairs beyond just losing power so we were lower down the repair list.  Three enormous trees were uprooted and fell beside our house with limbs actually touching our front porch.  Our front fence was down and driveway partially washed away when the creek went from a trickle to 15 feet in several hours.  We are blessed that the trees fell parallel to our home.  We had to cut our way out of the fallen trees to leave the house.  We see in  our area so many huge trees uprooted and lying on houses.

We are fortunate that we are okay and that's what matters most.  There are so many people who are less fortunate than we are and needing assistance.  Good to see the amazing and wonderful Dolly contributing her efforts.

• We had Spring Flooding in N. Minnesota and FEMA months later set up offices for people to apply for disaster assistance. It was just a few weeks back that a news announcement came out that it was last call to apply for FEMA assistance.

What a nightmare.

How scary that must have been having those enoromous trees fall right beside your house. I can only imagine.

Thank goodness they didn't come down on your house.

@bells4me - Was that comment really necessary?  I suspect she does a lot more than just this latest donation.  (And there was another million from her foundation.) Would you be happier, if she'd given $50 million?  Would that be sufficient?

As I said in a previous post:  "Damned if they do, damned if they don't."

But glad your kids benefit from her reading program.

Dolly has always been generous. She has given a tremendous amount of money within her state. She gave jobs to so many in what was a very poor area. We visited Dollywood when it first opened & met so many neighbors & people who went to school with her or to her little church. She is beloved in her home state but she gives a lot to many good causes not in Tennessee.

Glad to hear that you now have electricity. My girlfriend is still waiting for electricity and water. The roads in her area were washed away or not able to handle vehicles. So she doesn't expect electricity soon.

It is nice to hear that other people are getting electricity.
