Re: DO COMMERCIALS INFLUENCE YOU?

I actually won't support a product if the commercial annoys me too much.  The one exception lately has been the Cottonelle TP commercials. One child says, it gets you "As clean as a crystal palace."  What, do children really have a concept of this? I have been a Cottonelle user for years, but the ads still annoy me.

I agree with the Dawn comments.  I will only buy Dawn.  Not only do they do wonderful work for animals, their product works exceptionally well and is the gold standard for so many household cleaning "DIY" cleaning solutions.

Re: DO COMMERCIALS INFLUENCE YOU?

I mostly ignore the commercials (or fast-forward them), but I DO have a few favorites:

Subaru - grandson and grandfather surfing and Butch the dog.

My husband loves the Swifter commercial with the "WILD CHILD" cat.

MY (admittedly)r irrational issue with commercials is when they are done with a celebrity I don't like.  Can't help it.

Re: DO COMMERCIALS INFLUENCE YOU?

In the last 15 years, since I've had Tivos, I FF (or the newer ones have 'skip' which I love) through the commercial segments.

But sometimes I'm watching live tv and might catch something that looks interesting.   The commercial won't make me run out and buy something, or order it from the tv (NEVER do that anymore because those avenues are generally dishoneset).

But that's how I ended up with my first vacuum-sealer and that is truly priceless!  I didn't buy it off the tv but I did research and ended up buying that same model from a store back.   I would never want to be without a vacuum-sealer (and  at least one spare!).   Smiley Happy

I like to get ideas, but I do my research.   One example is that thing they sometimes do on 'The View' with products they sell at a given website for half of that for which the items usually sell.    I researched three different times off of one of those segments and each one ended up being a poor quality item that was just not worth what they were getting, even at half off.

Most of them are so annoying it makes me not buy whatever it is they are hawking.

I can't remember the last time I bought something because of a commercial.

@jpieI'm with you.  I completely agree with Dawn commercials but that has been based on years of solid, reliable experience so whatever the commercial I am good with it.

My current favorite are those Allstate commercials with Mayhem (Dean Winters).  The latest one portraying him as a ring bearer that swallowed the rings and then flung the pillow at the groom makes me laugh every time I see it.  There's another one that involves a car accident with wedding streamers and cans that is also very funny and well done.  I don't know who came up with that concept but they should be highly rewarded.

Commercials never influence me.  If I can FF through them, all the better.  But they must influence a lot of people or the ads would change.

Not at all.  I avoid commercials as much as possible as I find most of them annoying.   Half the time I don't even know what they are advertising.

Re: DO COMMERCIALS INFLUENCE YOU?

Eventually, yes.

It’s not like I spend my days watching every commercial, and making lists of products I need to buy, but at least one TV is on in this house nearly 20 hours a day.   I hear the commercials in the background all day long, and then one day an event happens and my brain recalls the product that is advertised on TV for that issue.

My cousin was recently diagnosed with macular degeneration, and I instantly thought of the advertised supplement.   I called him with the name of it, he wrote it down, and when he saw his specialist, that product was recommended to him.

Commercials do influence me but in the opposite way; I despise the insurance commercials...progressive and geiko are the worst..."mayhem" is also annoying...I would never, ever buy insurance from those companies....the drug companies are so long now, they are like infomercials....can't think of any commercial that has made me want to go buy their product...guess they don't influence me in the way they want!

I don't like the Progressive commercials, but if they offered rates that provided good coverage and saved me money, for sure I would buy insurance from them rather than someone else.  Paying more for insurance hurts me, not them, so I don't see the point in withholding my business.

I have an issue with that too.  There's a beauty care line that I avoid buying specifically for that reason.  The connection is just too strong in my mind, and their products are usually  not a bargain anyway.  Celebrity endorsements are tricky because it's easy for them to have the complete opposite of the desired effect.

I DVR nearly everything and I'm almost always multi-tasking (like now!), so it's pretty easy for me to avoid commercials.  I remember back in the day having no choice but to watch them.
