I took it one meal at a time ( with planning) and rebooted my life: 80 pounds lost-( and three doctors have told me to stop losing weight: that has never happened before!)AND the best part is that my A1c is 4.8!!!!!!
I am not changing a thing: there is no food that is worth feeling lousy over. I find that eating real food is the best preventative-and there are always healthy delicious alternatives.....I am 56, and the amount of gear hair that was coming in has slowed drastically.
I am using spa technology at home, and I know it's helping tremendously, but my skin is really looking terrific-I absolutely a tribute that to great nutrition.

Congratulations on your success! You have done an awesome job.
Good for you!!
P.S. Yes, all of that sugary starchy junk does indeed affect your skin adversely.

I could live on refined sugar, flour, and bad fats every day of the year, feel rotten all the time, gain back 85 pounds and say "thank you" when people think they are being kind and generous when bringing these things to me.
OR- I can eat wellness foods that are delicious and feel BETTER every day of the year.
You are a very lucky person if you can "enjoy yourself" doing something that can kill you. I can't.
Just saying this to point out that we are ALL DIFFERENT!
Happy Holidays to all of us, however or whatever we eat!

I guess I am fortunate that I just will not eat junk food at all ever. So is not something that I crave or want to put into my body. I will only eat healthy. Yes, perhaps I might eat too much plain Greek yogurt and fresh berries... or eat a who avocado instead of half.. but that is the extent to my indulgences. I would never eat candy, pie or cookies EVER.

@SeaMaiden I envy you that you are never tempted. I'm almost to the point of eating "clean", but holiday dinners, parties where do not have the choice of foods makes it difficult.

@Poodlepet2 Great work losing the weight for your health. I have diabetes on both sides of my family & A1C is just below average. Weight loss/exercise not the issue. Heredity. Nothing I can do. My doc may start me on Metformin next physical.

Like yourself, I avoid all desserts and can't eat just a bite. One bite and it becomes a couple of slices of pie or the box of cookies. Sugar is addictive for me.

Moderation is the key for me.
During the holidays, I pretty much eat what I like, but in very small portions.
I can be satisfied with a little bit of something and I don't feel deprived which tends to trigger cravings for me.

I don't eat dessert ever unless I am in a very nice restaurant and something really calls my name. To me the calories have to really be worth it. A couple of people do give me home made treats and I appreciate the effort made but that does not mean I have to eat all of it. What I do not like to get is purchased mass produced gift baskets, etc. I get a very large expensive Harry and David box every year and I do not even open it - I just regift it.

@Shanus I understand... I do not do parties for that reason.

Diabetic here also. I do allow myself a small serving of sweets only 3-4 times a year. Thanksgiving, Christmas eve, and my Birthday. And maybe a slip at someone elses birthday or event, but only if the splurge is on something I adore... I wont sabotage myself with something that isn't exciting to my tastebuds.
When I do eat something on the naughty list, I pay for it later by feeling icky. To me, starches and sugars are no different than cigarette smoke. Years ago when I smoked, I craved it.. I had to have my smokes or else I'd get cranky. Now that I've quit, if I am around smoke, it makes me feel ill and I can't believe that I used to enjoy it! Same goes for sweets and starches. When I had them regularly, I didn't notice their effects on my body, and the more I had, the more I craved!
Now that I got the junk out of my system, boy do I feel it when I indulge in something I shouldn't have. It's a trade off for me ... I know I'm gonna pay for it later, so whatever it is had better be worth the cost!
If I receive gifts of sweets or things I can't have, it either goes to my daughter, or to an elderly neighbor who absolutely loves the goodies.
