It's currently a toasty 16 degrees, with a wind chill reading of 13 in SW Michigan. The sun is out, which is something we rarely see in the winter and it feels glorious in the warm patches where it streams thru my living room windows.

Snow and sub zero actual temps are on the way this afternoon. I imagine that the kids will get a couple of days off from school this week. Not because of snow. We can handle  6-8 inches with no problem. But the sub zero temps will make it dangerously cold for them to be out at the bus stop.

As usual, my odd neighbor is complaining, as she does quite regularly, that my keeping the themostat at 68 degrees in my house, makes it harder for her to heat hers to 78. It's a condo where we share a common interior wall. It's well insulated. She can put on a sweater.

She keeps her heat set to 78?  I would run, naked and screaming down the block.

Same thing here in north NJ.  Waiting for snowstorm to start shortly, expecting 6 inches.  I have all I need at home and will stay indoors.  I haven't had pasta for a while so I will cook.  Bought some turkey sausages which taste good in sauce.

Stay warm and safe everyone!

From N.J. website;

Ahead of a winter snow storm and extreme cold, Gov. Phil Murphy has declared a State of Emergency for the entire state of New Jersey.

The order goes into effect at 8 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 19 and covers all of the state's 21 counties.

I am in So Joisey.  Nothing yet.  It's currently 34°.

7° & wind chill -10 here in SE Wisconsin. Fortunately no snow.
No let up in sight. I have plenty of groceries in the house. DH gets the munchies.

I'm going to make chili for tomorrow & a roasted turkey breast for tonight.. All sorts of toppings for chili. Some Thanksgiving sides for the turkey; green beans casserole & sweet potatoes. I pulled a cranberry nut loaf from the freezer to have with hot cocoa.

Everyone keep warm & think Spring!

Sure do agree with you, good to stay in and have comfort food.

Making a crock pot full of ribs today from the standard Fix It and Forget It cookbook.

Took leftover grilled steak and made beef & barley soup last night.  Need to stay warm!

We're cold too at 19 and minus 1 today, tomorrow 9 and minus 4.  Brrr.

The weather report we listened to last night at 6PM was absolutely ridiculous.

This may happen or maybe not, it could happen later or maybe sooner or maybe it won't happen by this time.

He should have said, look out the window periodically because I really just don't know what's going to happen.

@CelticCrafter

Same here.    The weather folks are always predicting "chance of rain".  We haven't had any since July...and THAT was .01 at the airport...(and nowhere else).      di

Just saw this and your other post and the suggestions were spot on.

Potatoes and extra water should do it.  Sometimes my dad would shave potatoes into the soup to thicken it and that may work well for getting the potatoes to cook quicker too.
