If you are in need, you are in need..........for that mom whose kid needs an operation or a special wheel chair.............I doubt she gives a hoot what anyone thinks...........she just want that operation or chair..........she's focused on her kid............give if ya want, and pass it by if you don't want.....................................................raven

I have donated twice to situations on gofundme. One party I knew and the other I didn't. Both were sorely in need of financial assistance and involved children's operations. I see one of the recipients at church and she is doing quite well. The other set of twins are reportedly improving their condition, although I do not know them. I'm glad I was able to help both.

I only use that site when I know the people who I'm helping.

No way would I donate to anyone begging this way. Maybe I'm jaded, but I feel there are probably more scams than genuine needs out there on gofundme. I keep my donations local where I know they are real and a collection is being done through a reputable bank.

No, you have it right, it's just cyber begging. Just ignore it and move on.

This just opens many opportunities for abuse. Many people are push-overs for a sad story and since it's on the Internet, it must be true, right?

i have funded a few projects or causes through go fund me and indiegogo and kickstarter. if it is something i have an interest in or a cause i want to further then i have no problem giving. i have never felt pressured or felt like someone was begging for money. i much prefer these ways than getting numerous phone calls or envelopes in the mail.

There is a certain youtuber that I would occasionally watch because thy would do little "skits" that I thought were entertaining and funny (I do not have a youtube account myself). About a month ago I checked to see if anything "new" was posted to my surprise there was a "serious" video about how they wouldn't be able to continue to do videos because they needed new equipment i.e. laptop, camera etc. and they started a indiegogo account to collect donations. This wasn't an issue until I watch videos that were made after the "serious" one. In those videos this person was on "vacation" staying at a resort. This person was out shopping and posted a video of what they purchased to include the cost of each item. This person is into legal gambling and routinely enters tournaments that require you to "buy" your way in. My thoughts were if they just cut back on just one of those vacations, or stopped the hauling, or passed on the next tournament then they'd have enough money of their own to purchased the needed equipment to continue making videos for youtube, something they obviously enjoy doing. Btw, they not only meet their money goal via the indiegogo account but exceeded it and instead of shutting it down after the goal was met it is still open to collect additional donations. I'd never personally donate to things like this however I'll buy someone down and out a meal any day of the week. I've also paid someones electric bill when I seen them trying to plead with the clerk to not turn off their electricity for non payment because they had a small child and wouldn't be able to buy the balance until the following week. I am not against "helping" others but I need to see you "helping" yourself first and not just standing around with your hand out. JMO

I've never heard of this site. I don't think it's something I'd do.
