Cutting puppy toenails

I have a 10 month old half schnauzer and terrier. I have had his toe nails cut whenever I have him groomed but they need trimming every 2 weeks at least. Don't want to go to groomers that often as it is over 45 miles away. Bought some clippers today from pet sense and tried to cut them and he went crazy. Got none of them cut. Any suggestions. He s about 13 pounds.
