Re: Curious --- what are schools like where you are?

Hybrid. I see children and adults coming and going from the schools wearing masks. And I often see the kids playing quite well, and not overly clumped up, in the playground with their masks on. I have a feeling they will have to go remote soon.

I’m in Florida. 100% open. Land of denial. No plans to change that.

Re: Curious --- what are schools like where you are?

In NYC 25% of the 1.2 million students are in person.  Today is the last day for parents with online children to opt to in person.

Overall City positivity, while having risen, is below the 3% threshold indicator to switch to all remote.

Random testing within the school system is exceptionally low at well below 0.5%

I do not believe that the schools here are a primary source of transmission.

Here public schools were hybrid but now fully online.  Private schools have been full time in person since August as have some charter schools.  No outbreaks in either.

Transmission in school is not really an issue.  But having to quarantine those possibly exposed is the biggest hindrance to keeping schools open.

Schools here in my small city were in person until last week.  Now it is hybrid.  I think hybrid is ridiculus.  It's like being "a little pregnant" or "kind of sick."  PIck one way or the other.  Hybrid is harder on students, teachers, and families than either other option.

Phoenix (a 500 sq mile city):   Each school district makes its own rules.   They are all different according to local needs.

Ours have been shut down since March.  I hope they continue to respect public health and school personnel.  Any complaints?--It did not have to be this way.

Re: Curious --- what are schools like where you are?

The school district I work for began bringing in special education students that weren't making progress remotely for related services (Speech, OT and PT) at the beginning of October and gradually increased the number of cohorts of special education students they began bringing in for in person education.  Just this past week, the entire district went back for hybrid education if the parents chose that model for their student.  I don't know how long that will last as our state as well as the surrounding area has rising numbers.  Parochial schools in my area have been hybrid or fully in person since the beginning of the school year and many private schools have been fully in person all school year.

@Mellie32  I will only address our High School because that is where my 2 youngest are right now.

School is open. Everything is open: sports are 100%. Games are open to full stadiums. We have an enrollment of 3500 and currently 80% are in school. 20% are elearning. We have been told that come January, it will be 100% in class.

However.... our High School has the highest number of COVID positive students in the county of ALL the schools k-12 including private and charter schools. We have teachers leaving due to their fear of COVID. We have lost 800 teachers (20 from our High School) due to county cut-backs so students will not be able to social distance as required in January if 100% are expected back in school. In addition, many of the parents have filed suit stating that the county is putting their childs life in danger which is a violation of federal laws so......

we have no idea what will happen in January. My 2 are home, not attending any school events that are not online. They hear about the parties, the games, all the "stuff" going on and then hear about how many kids are out sick or quarantined due to someone in the class testing positive (many have had NO schooling because they keep having to be quarantined and the county does NOT provide instruction to students in that situation). Add that to everything on the news  and they want NOTHING to do with the outside world. It's horrible on so many levels. Smiley Sad

Ugh! That sounds like such a mess! I would think parents could sue. It sounds like a dangerous environment for all.
