Curious about taking down Christmas decor...

Several of my neighbors, and some friends & some acquaintances on Facebook, etc. have all stated how they couldn't WAIT to get their decorations down. The general sentiment was something like, "the best part of taking them down was that Christmas was over!"

So I have wonder, if it's such a drag to decorate for Christmas, and you can't wait for it to be over, why decorate in the first place? {#emotions_dlg.confused1}

I don't care for the commercialized approach to Christmas, but I LOVE decorating. I don't do as much as I used to, but I love the lights and the sparkles and the greenery.

Also, I wait til Jan. 6 or after to take my things down, and then the house always seems to bare for awhile. {#emotions_dlg.crying}

I read on another forum someone in-decorates Christmas day. I enjoy them until I'm ready to take them down. Lol

I thinned out my decorations today because I was getting that claustrophic feeling but the trees are still up and will stay until around the 5th/6th.

Re: Curious about taking down Christmas decor...

I dropped our xmas tree yesterday. Furniture had to be moved to fit it in and I was tired of the close fit. Plenty of décor still up and the mantle is fully decorated.

Re: Curious about taking down Christmas decor...

Perhaps some people put up a real tree and worry about it being a fire hazard?

Personally, I put so much work into decorating, I want it to stick around for awhile so we can enjoy it. Besides, it is nice to see the tree on New Year's Eve when we toast to the New Year.

I guess everyone has a different way of looking at it. Neither is wrong.

As to the question - I wonder if some people just do it out of a sense of duty, because maybe the kids or the rest of the family loves it. So it becomes drudgery to them and they are glad when it's over, but they still want to do it for others.

My husband wants me to donate some of the Christmas stuff and get rid of the 6 ft tree.

Re: Curious about taking down Christmas decor...

I moved in to my new house just before Christmas, and the tree and decorations were almost the first thing up ....I'm afraid that when I take them down, it will look empty and blah ):
