Re: Cryptic Lyrics, American Pie song, explained

OMG, what a rush 😃My daughter knew the entire lyrics by the time she was seven.

ps

I wanted her to get a taste of what it had been like so we took her to the funeral for Jerry Garcia in Golden Gate Park.  The Grateful Dead, Hari Krishna and face painting.  It was wonderful, but it was The End.

Re: Cryptic Lyrics, American Pie song, explained

In the spring of 1972, I met my husband in Honolulu for R&R. We had a rental car and drove around the island and listened to this for days.

Unfortunately we cannot "go back" to the way things were. Times change. They always do.

@jeanlake Even though I knew what the lyrics meant I hadn’t seen the video. Thanks so much for that.

I rememer well the morning that I read the news of the plane crash. I went to my neighbor’s house to walk to school with her - we were in 7th grade at the time and w were in complete shock.

I’ve always thought that the jester was Mick Jagger rather than Bob Dylan,though.

Thanks again for the video.

I guess I’m part of this generation lost in space. Thanks for sharing the video. I’ve been singing this song forever and even saw him perform it once. I’ve always wondered what the lyrics meant through Don’s eyes. The father, son, and the holy ghost? The jester? To name a couple. No I don’t remember the day the music died since I was 6 yr old but I love their music. Just saw LaBamba 2-3 weeks ago. I love music from the 50s even though rock and roll was not allowed in my house.

@Bri36  I had to do something. I watched Sunday Morning show with Randy Newman showing him singing that song -- Short People. (shaking my fist) That was stuck in my head, too, and at 5'1" I don't like that song! My apologies.

@OKPrincess

I loved La Bamba the movie!  My daughter and I watched a copy of it together, so good but so sad.

I love Randy Newman. It was meant as irony about bigotry.  I took it seriously at first, too, being the same height  you are Smiley Happy
