This is an excellent suggestion.

It's not always all about simply not responding, though. If someone starts a really ridiculous unpleasantly critical thread and no one posts in it, the ugly words are still there for all to see, and they should not be because they invariably violate forum Standards. The posts need to be gone. If no one responds at all in any way, the greater the likelihood the ugliness will stay visible for quite a while.

@Moonchilde

So why not just report it and also not respond?????????????????????????

Who says people don't?

Why do you think I said "the posts need to be gone"?????????????????????????????

The reality is often that there needs to be more than one post in a thread for the moderators to consider things inappropriate, i.e. depending upon the moderator they seem to need "several" inappropriate posts in order to take a closer look and/or delete. It depends on the moderator and how much time they have to devote to reading reported posts on that shift.

@Moonchilde

fact or just speculation???  Not being argumentative just inquiring minds wanna know.  We have had our difference of opinion but have found common ground too on many topics.....

Since none of us can "know" anything at all about QVC Behind the Scenes, it's speculation based on observation.

Totally poof-worthy (and not just IMO) posts and threads often stay up for hours on some days while being poofed instantly on other days, boom-boom one right after the other.

Logic tells me it's individual moderator decision/opinion, how much time they feel like devoting or have to devote that day to threads and posts, and whatever other tasks they were set by QVC that day. On days when there is a lot of trolling and bumping they have their hands full just keeping up with that, and I've seen that taken advantage of.

I was glad to see that the posters who enjoyed the daily positive thread have found a way to continue their friendship with their new version. Many threads about happy events fizzle out from reader apathy or transition into posters trading barbs. The threads that get immediate traction and action on the boards are the ones that criticize hosts and vendors for their appearance or opinion expressed. For some reason the things that irritate people are more popular to hash over than the pleasant things, and along with the criticism, these threads occasionally produce some humorous and witty exchanges. The mods do a pretty good job of weeding out the really nasty ones. Before the guidelines were tightened and the mods became more visible, these boards could set your hair on fire. Some of the comments about hosts and vendors were truly horrid.

@SunValley

JMHO truly repulsive comments, ugly stories about the hosts personal life which are untrue, trolls that post over the top threads to incite, these have no place on the Forums.....these people should be permanently banned...

But some topics which look to be volatile actually started out as good discussions (the Jon Benet Thread that was deleted)....there were just good opinions with varying differences all kept on an intelligent level, even though some did not agree with various "theories"....yet a couple posters had to derail it by antagonizing and making fun of those giving an opinion on the entire subject --until the post got poofed......why did that person even bother to take the time to make their inane remarks......just move on, don't open it and go to another thread---SHEESH!!!

@Spurt yes, many good threads end up derailed, often with someone taking issue with some snippet within a longer response and then confronting the poster about something that takes the whole discussion off topic. I can understand the wish of this OP to keep criticism of hosts and vendors out of the boards. Starting rumors, feeding false ones, attacking posters who have a different opinion, and deliberately baiting do nothing good. Also what starts out as a good conversation can go bad often times because some posters see a blurred line between criticism of the product and the presenter: I.e., "this product doesn't work and how could host X sit there and tell me how great it is;  host X is untrustworthy and a liar!" And off it goes.

I tend to open those kinds of threads but usually don't have much to say.  Over on a soap opera thread that I participate in, there was talk about the big ears on an actress. I'd never comment on that because she can't help that.  On the other hand, I might comment on an unattractive hairdo or outfit.

Do you think that we could all abstain from making critical comments about the hosts and vendors?

I am so sick and tired of seeing the nit-picking remarks about those who are just doing their respective jobs.

The products are fair game, but, please, let's give the personal attacks a rest.

Petty attacks, yes maybe. But to offer up constructive criticism about hosts and vendors (say, things like...... hosts/vendors saying ummm all the time, or talking so fast it is hard to understand, or talking over a vendor until you can't understand what either is saying, or suggesting a host describe the product more thoroughly, or complain about a host that spends more time with personal stories and input rather than product description etc) is something within our 'rights' as customers.

We tune in to consider purchases. If we aren't seeing things in a fashion that makes it easy to understand the product, or makes us interested/excited about it, the company, and the host should know our feelings.

Honestly, whatever people think is going to happen when they post such criticisms, I have a hard time believing that the moderators or anyone else from QVC are combing the threads to determine what a few posters don't like about a host's presentation.

The number of people who post on the forums is a very small percentage of QVC customers, and the number of posters who consistently complain about certain hosts is even smaller - a drop in the bucket, number and statistics-wise, to QVC - UNLESS a *significant* drop in sales occurs when these hosts are on-air, *consistently.*

Considering that the same hosts are still with QVC that the same posters have been saying the same things about for months or years, I'd say their sales have been healthy enough to keep - which is all QVC really cares about.

These types of threads never go well.

In general, people don't like to be told what to do and will always defend their right to way what they want.

You either join in with them or ignore the nasty comments.  That's about all you can do.

I don't think there is a lot of nastiness re hosts and vendors.  Definitely there is some but not a lot and the mods handle it well.   Sometimes criticism is valid, life isn't all lollipops and rose petals.  If people choose to work in field  a like this, they have to expect some fair criticism.  Posters should be able to express some opinions on something, there's not much else we can talk about on this board.

How bizarre. How do you define or measure 'a lot'  There seems to be at least one new host or vendor bashing nastiness thread everyday.

Sky is the limit when it comes to topics and things to discuss. But this is a SHOPPING website. Not the place for political arguments or the sick game of trash talking hosts, vendors, trollish behavior.

IMO a lot of the trash-talking, definitely the pot-stirring and just general WT* threads are old new members, shall we say. It works because old new members cooperate with and feed off of each other, and there are many, many posters where this possibility never crosses their mind, so there are built-in genuine responses mixed in.
