Credit card companies & credit bureaus, ask for selfies

I posted over the weekend about the credit card fraud I had to deal with and how the card company wanted me to send pics of my license, and a selfie.  Well here's another story from someone else......

A package was delivered to my home today.  It was for my address, but it was for a person I had never heard of.  The package was from Nordstrom, so I called them.  Long story short, the rep was able to track the order and it's being picked up tomorrow.

What was interesting though was I told the rep about my recent fraud incident and how the credit card company wanted me to send my license and a selfie.  She said the same thing happened to her.  Both the credit card company and Equifax wanted photos of her license, and a selfie picture!

Just thought I'd pass this along.  Apparently these companies now want the fraud victim to prove their identity with license and SELFIE pics.  Hope you don't get hacked!

😬

@LdyBugz.  Without proof, corporations don't know you're the fraud victim.  There are as many or more scam targeting businesses as there are scamming individuals.  They've obviously been taken advantage of previously and have taken steps to prevent it.  Unfortunately even the innocent must be inconvenienced, however, I don't blame them at all.  I'd do the same thing.

Scams cost us all money in increased prices.

@Kachina624   Yep, I get that.  It's a tough situation for the companies and the victim.  I would hope though, as in my case, they could email me the code they wanted me to recite since they emailed me about the fraud in the first place, or use the security questions I submitted.

It's all just so frustrating.  No easy answers.

Re: Credit card companies & credit bureaus, ask for selfies

I had my debit card hacked --once last Nov and then just this Feb---so had to go thru all this twice with my bank--but never had to prove who I was as far as photo or ID--and did all this on the phone and online---is this just for credit cards? Now this was a debit card-----but I have switched over to just using a credit card now----
