Re: Credit Card Surcharges

[ Edited ]

Am i doing math correctly when say the bill is $500.00 then an an additional 2.5% is $12.50? I dont consider that getting "scr*wed over".

Is my math mathing anyone? Please correct me if Im wrong as it is not my strong suit.

That is not enough for me to complain about frankly.

A couple thousand would only be $50.00 surcharge. Give me a break. I can see 2.5 with every patient would be a burden on a company. They could just raise their rates to cover but give the advantage of tbe option to the customer and also simplify their accounting but decided not to.

Im not someone who has a large amoiunt of cash for emergencies EVER  ( usually my home or medical as I dont have pets)  so Ive had to opt for credit card and pay the fee MOST of the time. I do get Amazon points back so that helpful and very useful for me actually.

I am grateful the service takes credit card payment and I accept the fee as I dont have that kind of cash.

My vet has been adding a 3% fee, but I pay by check. Rarely use credit or debit cards.

I just recently started keeping more cash on hand.  Just went to the bank yesterday to get my cash for the month.  I carry so much and rest is left at home.  My husband always had cash and I just never did but I would get from him if I needed.  Just never thought about it much.  I just used my bank card.

I still use checks but not like before and swipe is quick but I have no problem writing out a check.

This has been going on for a while now.  We got a new furnace for the basement a couple of years ago.  We had our choice of cash, check or credit card but credit card surcharge was 3%.  I will say they offered a couple of hundred dollars in savings if we wrote a check, which we did.  Businesses are passing on the cost of them doing business onto us.

When we eat out at a restaurant, we are finding most will add the upcharge when paying. We ALWAYS ask up front anytime we use a credit card now, and at most restaurants we end up paying cash. This is unfortunate, as my CC will pay 5% rewards, but we don't want to pay the extra and end up losing the reward. Not interested in taking the differnce.

Have to admit I don't remember encountering this except when I donate to charities online some ask for an additional $3 to cover costs.

I do not carry a check with me--have maybe written 5 checks in the past 5 years--and only about $75 in cash.

As someone else pointed out I either get cash back from my credit card or airline miles.  Have no intention of paying for anything except with a credit card.

Yes, as of the first of this year my vet is charging a 3% surcharge for using either credit or debit cards.  Paying them by check doesn't bother me.

But my internet company has also implemented a 3% surcharge for the same.  I don't want them automatically accessing my bank account nor do I want to go back to having to mail a check every month, so I will pay the fee.  I hope to be moving sometime in the future and will be changing internet companies, so I'll deal with it for a while.

The feds had a cap of 4% on these charges.  Has that changed?

It vendors were eating the charge, it was embedded in the price.  Amounts to a price increase, right?

I haven't seen it for myself yet, but the majority of our vendors here at work are passing that on to us.

We pay by check anyways.

I think it is a fair practice.  If they didn't upcharge the individual purchase, they would have to raise rates across the board.

That hits everyone, unfair.  Why should cash/check people have to cover MY credit card upcharge.

This way, if I choose to swipe, I pay the fee.  It is not passed on to those who choose to pay by cash or check.

I charge everything, but am too cheap to pay that fee (although I have Not run across it)

As others, I always have checks w/ me and would pay that way to avoid a fee.
