Re: Credit Card Not Applied For from my bank

my 82 year old mother placed an online order with FRONTGATE.

she says they opened a credit card in her name.

she found out because she said she never got a bill and all of a sudden she got a second bill with a past due notice and a late fee.

i told her they cannot open an account without you giving them some of your personal information to open that account.

she insists they did it without her knowledge, without her giving them her personal information, and without her having click on anything that would have gotten her that credit card.

i gave up trying to get her to understand......

@Kachina624   Happened to my mother (different bank, tho).    I had a heck of a time getting rid of that card.    Told the bank to come to the house and see for themselves there was no way an elderly invalid with dementia  could have opened that card....      di

You asked the wrong question in the wrong place.  Get down to your bamk NOW and talk to a manager, not a teller.  The bank will have to track down how and why the card was issued without your prior knowledge.  I believe there are federal and state laws that protect against this.

Yesterday I received an email from Chase saying there was activity  on a dormant account ,I have only one account with them for many many years , and it is very active .I saw on email said  to click here to make sure everything was correct got the feeling it was phishing so of course I didn't click on it  but did forward the email directly to phishing @Chase. I did notice they did not have any Customer service phone number to call which seemed strange to me,but everything else looked like it was from Chase.

Guess we all have to be so aware of what is going on with scammers out there trying to get our information.

@Mimi NY - You're right - it was a phishing email.  Good for you not clicking on anything.

Yes, the scumbag scammers are always on the lookout for vulnerable people.

We were at a different bank just this morning and heard that BofA just got caught doing the same thing.

Perhaps someone applied in your name and was hoping to intervene your mail before you.  This was a common scheme during Covid to receive unemployment debit cards.

Re: Credit Card Not Applied For from my bank

We have a credit freeze with all three credit agencies so that will never happen to us.  We do need to temporarily lift it if getting a new card or appyling for a loan.  Neither of those happen very often, so it is a great safeguard!
