@FlyersGirl wrote:I am in the Philly Burbs and there is plenty of cream cheese bricks where I shop. Lots of Philadelphia Brand and even more of the store brands (Shop Rite's Bowl and Basket brand, Weis' brand, Wegman's brand) I always buy the store brand to use when baking anyway, I can't tell the difference. Shop Rite has theirs on sale for 99 cents this week.
Good to know. I shied away from Shop Rite store brand because I wasn't sure how it tasted. I figured if I went to all the trouble of making something I wanted to make sure it tasted good. Thanks, now I know.

I'm guessing it's because of cheesecake baking this time of year, that require 3 bricks or more!
I am a huge cream cheese consumer (on bagels With tomato slices), but I am not Gonna panic! I just love it and yes, I was born in NYC!

These shortages are not always tied to factory production of the product; they are tied to warehouse distribution and what's available in that warehouse when the orders are filled and loaded on trucks.

havent run into any cream cheese shortage......we had plenty for thanksgiving. sams club sells blocks in packages of 4 or 5.

I also live in Nassau. Went to Shoprite this afternoon. They had cream cheese (I bought plain and strawberry). What they seem to be short on is unscented fabric softener sheets. Go figure!

We're so spoiled in this country, many of us want for nothing. The variety of food we have to choose from is enormous. In other parts of the world this kind abundance is unheard of.
Throughout this pandemic there's been constant fearmongering and complaints about this shortage or that shortage, but it seems almost all of them have been quite temporary, a few days or weeks.
We just had Thanksgiving two weeks ago, a national day of being thankful for our blessings. We're so quick to forget. Be grateful for all the thihgs we have, not angry or upset about a fleeting inconvenience.

I refuse to believe there isn’t some sort of spread New Yorkers could enjoy on a bagel. Butter? Nutella? Egg salad? Orange marmalade?@RollTide2008 Nope! It has to be cream cheese. It's just not the same with anything else!
@CelticCrafter I was going to say the same thing! Any New Yorker will tell you cream cheese on a bagel is the only way to go!
I'm an OG New Yorker and I like my bagels lightly toasted with "budda"
, no cream cheese. You do you, not every NYer likes cream cheese.
Maybe switch to another NY fave, a buttered kaiser roll, until then?

I live in western NY and I have everything I need to buy. Have not seen any shortages of anything. Maybe those of you that live in or near a city are seeing the shortages because of population. So far so good here.

@decaf - I don't really see a lot of complaints here, just statements of fact. Like how I posted that I can't find Coke Zero Cherry Vanilla. It's not a complaint. It's just a statement of fact. Life goes on without it.
I certainly agree with you that we have an embarrassment of riches in this country. Certainly not like when we were growing up, at least when I grew up. I'm 66. To me shortages of everything, except for medications and toilet paper are just inconveniences, not really huge deals. Some may be head scratchers as to a reason why there is a shortage on certain items, but surely we can march on without these items.
