The drivers of those tremendous RV's that are bigger than a Grethound who drive in the mountains (speed 50 mph) at approximately 15 mph. we have a 5 car law. If there are 5 or more cars trailing, pull off and let them by. I don't know if these people are sightseers or scared to death of the mountain turns. aaaaaakkkk!

Or step on it and merge. Can't stand drivers who don't know how to merge!!

You are the one who doesn't know how to merge - the person entering is responsible to YIELD to the cars already on the road. If you live where the roads are flat and you can see down the road from the ramp - and you can see that the lane is clear - fine - accelerate and get on but not all topography allows that. Not everywhere is flat and open so you can view the road from the entry ramp.

AAAAAAAAAAAA! Yeah, I agree. Guess they missed that lesson growing up.

There is a two lane road by me that when I have to stop and wait for traffic coming the opposite way to pass before I can make my left hand turn, there are people who pass on the right using the shoulder to pass on. Sometimes they are so close to me that it seems they night clip off my mirror.

Another road (state highway) where the speed limit is 55, the drivers are whizzing by at 75 and 80. Once in a great while there will be a sheriff watching the traffic, but not very often.

ITA about pedestrians walking without looking.

Literally closer to home, we now have a 5 lane road in front of our home ( middle lane being the left turn lane ). This road used to be 2 lanes and now is between a traffic light at one end and the entrance to a bypass at the other intersection. My pet peeve and major concern is when I need to make a left into my driveway. Facing two lanes of potential traffic, I find that the " courteous" driver in the lane closest to me waves me on to finish the turn. What the driver doesn't see is that the other lane has a speeder coming up and there would be an accident for sure. I now stop, flash my lights and put my arm out the window to tell the oncoming driver to keep on going.

Do you have any idea at all how many feet of road it takes to stop a large motorhome or a truck pulling a trailer or fifth wheel? WAY WAY WAY more than it takes to stop a car. Maybe if you had a clue what you are talking about this post would not sound so inane.

I stopped driving four years ago at age 72 for several reasons, most of them because of my physical limitations. When I was still driving I always drove in the right-hand lane at about five miles above speed limit, depending upon what the speed limit was. I was never comfortable driving over 60 mph.

If someone was right on my tail, I would turn on my flashers and move off the road until they passed. Sometimes (rarely) someone would give me a short beep and wave as they went by, realizing I gave them a courtesy. Most of the time though, they just whizzed by.

My daughters drive me wherever I need to go these days and I swear the traffic has tripled since I was driving. There is no time of day around here when the roads are clear anymore.

Kittymom - We have a big problem with slow drivers on the freeway! Yeah, on the freeway. Getting on the freeway takes a lot of patience and finesse because you often find yourself stuck behind some bonehead who thinks it's appropriate to enter the freeway going 30MPH. Um, it's NOT! Yikes - how to get yourself killed in one easy lesson.

I have to say that back when I lived in Europe, at first, I was so surprised at how people zoomed around but one of the good things was that you learned to either get going or get out of the way. Smiley Happy

I don't know where you live but anywhere I have ever lived the person entering the highway DOES NOT have the right of way - the cars on the highway already do have the right of way and those entering are supposed to merge in and if needed , stop and wait til the lane is clear. In the Pittsburgh area there are entrances where it is impossible to see around the hillsides and curves to know if there is a car coming in the right lane, until you are way at the end of the entrance ramp. Often at those places there is a STOP sign on the entry ramp. You are to stop and wait until the lane is clear and then you enter. Is it polite for a car on the highway to move over and allow the cars to enter - absolutely - but there are times when you can't move over because there is traffic in the other lane. My absolute pet peeve is people who hit that entry ramp at 55 or more with no clue if the lane is clear for them to enter the highway safely.

I didn't say that ANYBODY had the right of way. But there IS a way to enter the freeway and merge with traffic responsibly. We don't have stop or yield signs at freeway entrances. The point is that one must merge with traffic. That does not mean that you create a scenario where somebody has to stop or let you in.

You DO enter the freeway at a speed that allows you to merge seamlessly with traffic. By the time you are at the point of entry you should be going somewhere around 55. Obviously there are times of heavy traffic when it's not practical but, generally speaking, one merges with traffic. That means that by the time you're to that point you are going freeway speed, not holding everybody behind you up by going at nothing speed so that nobody can get in.

hh,

her point is that drivers of these monster vehicles need to be courteous and not let traffic build up behind them. It is the epitome of arrogance for these RV drivers not to pull over if they have a line of cars built up behind them. That is the responsible thing to do.

sylvia's post wasn't inane, but your reply is just rude.
