That's just like all those parents of yore who named their children Titanic and Hindenburg.
Oh, wait. They didn't. It's just today's witless parents who'd do such an idiotic thing. To think that they've consciously saddled their children with names that will remind them of this "hardship" . . . I already have a headache, otherwise I'd SMH.

I suppose it could be worse. Imagine what the twins' names could have been if there had been a venereal disease epidemic...Sy-philis and Gonor-rhea...of course that would only work with twin girls.

Imagine calling those 2 words out at a playground or large
gathering in the future. Then you see 2 kids run to their parents.
Everyone will be like what and why are those 2 kids burdened
with those horrific words? These words are not names!

The point is that they are in India and non- Indian sounding names are just exotic for them and do not have a profound meaning. If the kids were born in USA they wouldn’t name them here like this.
It is a very different from us culture , I am used to it already. Most of even educated people in India do not even know who Mozart was .

Maybe they thought it would bring them some celebrity status and would received free products for their newborns like diapers, wipes, and even toilet paper.
Stupid or smart?

See, it is all in cultural reading and understanding..... lol.... I would say for a boy and a girl. Because in Latin syphilis is male and gonorrhea is female !
But also we could create 4 names out of it. Sy + Philis and Gonor( very Viking sounding)+Rhea.
