Yes, I would. I have called the police when I couldn't stop someone I love from driving while under the influence. I'd rather they be in legal trouble than have them die in an accident (or kill someone else) when I could have stopped it. They didn't speak to me for a long time.
Edited to add - I realize that this is not the same thing that this thread is about. But the answer is the same - I would definitely report it if lives are at stake, or lives would be destroyed by the crime.

Not even a question for me; I'd do it in a NY minute and always made sure my kid understood that as well.
As for LE here, they have and would act immediately on any such phone call or suggestion of a shooting. We have awesome LE who are well equipped.

absolutely.
Not to do so would be an act of omission on my part and I would consider myself as culpable as the person committing the crime..

If I overheard that someone was planning to shop lift at the mall, not much can be done until they do it, except notify the management of the store.
If someone is planning a terror attack, kidnapping, bank robbery, murder, then of course you tell what you know and let LE do with it what they will.
And that includes telling on my spouse, child or parent.
This is a response to the bolded (by me) sentence. There was a tragedy that happened in our little town. The police were notified that Roger was going to kill Mike that weekend. Roger had threatened this to the person that went to the police. The police said nothing could be done since nothing had been done yet to show he was really going to do it. Yep, you guessed it, Roger killed Mike that weekend. There was much more to the story, but reporting that someone is "going" to do something does little good in some cases.
So do restraining orders in most cases, unfortunately.
That is exactly what a police officer told me some time ago. He said, and, I quote, "a piece of paper can not protect you....."

Many years ago there was a man who told his wife he was going to hunt humans. She shrugged it off. Married for a long time and used to his rants she never contacted authorities. That time he made good on his promise and shot up a McDonalds. Many were killed and injured. She told law enforcement that yes she knew, like so many times before when he did nothing. Law enforcement not only did not hold her responsible but helped her to change her name and move to another city and state as they had kids.

Perhaps you are getting this confused with the BTK kllr. His wife went in to the divorce court and obtained an immediate divorce and name change for her and children.
