Could You Go Without Shopping For a Year? (Except for Necessities)

The author of this article has gotten through all of 2017 so far, without shopping for anything except necessities. She claims that it has been a liberating experience. I don't think l could do it!

Here's the link to her op-ed piece from The NY Times:

I believe our friend @lolakimono did this a couple of years ago!

Absolutely.

The shopping experience that I used to enjoy is dead and burried in America.

Retailers no longer care what the customer wants, it's take it or leave it, poor quality, poor selection of mostly inferior schlock.

Re: Could You Go Without Shopping For a Year? (Except for Necessities)

I was born without the shopping gene.  To me, shopping is time wasted that I can’t get back.   I order everything I need, and only go to grocery stores as little as possible.

I used to go to our local mall once a year to buy a Hallmark ornament; that store closed 2 years ago, so it’s been more than 7 years since I shopped an anchor store like Belk or JC Penney.

Purging this house of clutter has been my number one goal for the last 5 years; I want to keep pushing more out the door rather than bring more in.
