Originally, the change was supposed to happen around now but it has been delayed a couple of months. Current Costco AMEX cardholders will automatically receive their new Visa cards in the mail - no need to do anything. Within the article it states that the AMEX will automatically cancel on June 20th. Keep that in mind of you have your AMEX card set up as your default payment card on shopping websites or EZ Pay plans.

I am waiting for this to happen. I get pre-approved offers weekly from AMEX wanting me to continue with them. I have received alot of free merchandise from Costco thanks to this card.

Thanks for posting the link to the article. The article states that the Costco membership through the AmEx card will be cancelled, but does that mean that the AmEx non-Costco credit account part of the card is also cancelled? I wonder if automatic cancellation will affect my credit score.

l cancelled my Costco card myself -- did it weeks ago and so far my FICO hasn't dropped. Not sure why, maybe because I have lots of credit, maybe because of my spending/paying habits, etc.
The one thing I do know is that whatever my score is is what it is going to be. Each time I check my score, I get a message back that I can improve my score by taking out a new mortgage and paying it off on time!!! Not happening - or not happening while I'm still in my own mind,

No wonder Amex keeps calling us to stay on with them!
I love my Costco cash back card, and cashing that rebate check every year!😉👍🏻

@deepwaterdotter Exactly what are you referring to? I don't see anything where Costco memberships are being cancelled. It's only the Costco American Express credit card that is being cancelled. The card will no longer be able to be used anywhere when that happens.

@sam96 You'll still get that with the new Visa. All the current rebates you're racking up with the AMEX card will transfer. I know what you mean about cashing that rebate check every year. I use my AMEX card for everything possible and pay the balance off each month. That big rebate check is free money! I just cashed ours a couple of weeks ago and put the money aside. It'll be a nice chunk toward a new mattress...we just need to decide which one we're getting.

Perhaps I worded it confusingly. I know that my Costco membership will transfer to the Citibank credit card, but am wondering if AmEx will automatically cancel the credit account part of the old Costco card.

@JeanLouiseFinch That makes me happy! I do the same thing...I even bought a new couch and rug last year with it. I thought the salesperson at the store was about to choke, but when I told her why, she started laughing! Said she'd never thought about using hers that way! I said as long as you pay it off every month, you definitely come out ahead. I think her husband didn't thank me after that sale 😂

@deepwaterdotter My understanding, from the article, is that the card will be cancelled. Period. The article even advises current cardholders to stop using it.
