@pakajaka wrote:I am new here. I always read this forum so now I have decided to jump in.
Here are my thoughts:
1. Why did Cosby think he had to drug women to get them to sleep with him. He was an icon and I think he probably would have no problem getting any woman he wanted. Many women don't care if you're married or not. So why the drugs? I would not even believe that about him, except he admitted it.
2. Does anyone know that his daughter died a couple weeks before the trial started from kidney failure. I think she was in her 40's or 50's. He lost his son years ago.
3. I think the judge was totally wrong in allowing the other women to testify as this was not about them.
4. I have trouble believing all 68 women. Sorry, out of that many SOMEONE would have come forward at the time it happened. Once the first one came forward it was like a tsunami. If 3 came forward and that is all, I would be more apt to believe ALL of them, but 68?
5. I think Cosby should be on house arrest, not in the prison system. He is 81, in failing health, is legally blind and he has all the money in the world to pay for his and his wife's old age health care. Why should the State pay. He was found guilty, his life is ruined and that should be enough.
6. I am perplexed by his wife's loyalties, but nobody knows what goes on behind closed doors. She must still love the man she fell in love with many years ago so for her sake and age I hope they can stay together and die together. He is already in prison in his mind living with the fact that he was exposed. Is he sorry? Who knows!
7. I think Angela, after getting millions, went along with the criminal trial because of Gloria Allred. Gloria is vile.
8. I think the MeToo movement is being blown out of proportion because it now seems that woman are taking advantage and ruining some men's lives with lies because they now can. It benefits them in all ways, they can claim that they are victims and ask for anything they want and so many of them want to take over the world.
9. I am old school and have always despised the Women's Lib Movement that started in the 60's. I feel it was the cause of the breakdown of the family unit.
10. Do I think Cosby is guilty? Yes, for some and no for others. If Cosby didn't admit to drugging women then I would have had a difficult time believing that he was capable of this. But, he was!!!
Woo, I wanted to get all that out of my system!
Welcome .... I'll try to keep it short, although I believe you really haven't followed this case in the news, and are forming opinions with very flawed information.
1. He's a sexual PREDATOR .... not a regular, garden variety cheater. Huge difference.
2. Yes. That's very sad, but it has no bearing whatsoever on this criminal case.
3. The Prosecutor was allowed to bring them in because it was establishing a long, repetitious pattern of behavior with many women, over decades.
4. Several women DID come forward, as written in the news. Police didn't believe some of them, or just said it was a "he said, she said" and refused to do anything with such a powerful man and powerful studio behind him. Some women were threatened to keep their mouths shut, or else, and he also had a guy who would pay a visit to any woman who persisted and he threw a little money at them, telling them if they made it public, it would ruin their lives. This was also in the news.
5. So what? His health has no bearing on the criminal acts that would mean up to 30 years in jail. Would you also say that murderers finally found when they were old shouldn't serve time because of old age? Not relevant!
6. I think she is either in denial or just thinks "stand by your man" is how she'll look best to the AA community. Or maybe she still hopes he'll be vindicated. JMO
7. Angela WHO? Rape victims find it extremely difficult to come forward, and Gloria Allred is not vile. She's really a godsend for many women who cannot easily come forward or stand up for themselves. (See Post #157 upthread)
8. Take over the world? Seriously? You seem (embarrassingly) unaware of how many women are dealing with sexually aggressive men who do so in the workplace because they can get away with it, and, again, women are threatened into keeping silent. It happens everywhere in this country, in every industry. BTW .... just because a woman makes an accusation doesn't mean she is automatically believed. There comes an investigation first. If a company gets one complaint, they discreetly determine if this was a one time thing, or if he does it to every woman he can approach. Even if women don't report it to HR, they tell other women (or a therapist) who can later corroborate her claims during that investigation. Women talk to each other, thankfully, and men with that reputation are known and avoided, whenever possible. Many times, in smaller companies, there's nowhere to hide from these predators and her life is a living hell.
9. Sorry, but you aren't old school .... you are woefully out of touch with the real life most women live. Lots of modern women have strong, healthy, happy families today. Times change, and when things no longer work for everyone, changes are made. The only thing you can count on in life is change.
10. I disagree. He's a serial sexual predator that probably should spend the next 30 years in jail. Maybe there'll be a few predators in jail that will show him just what he put those women through. "An eye for an eye" comes to mind ...

My reaction is the same as yours. Not only is that statement without merit, it's also highly offensive.

I am really sorry for offending you, I was just stating my case. We are both going to react from different places, depending on our own past and where we are now in life.
Another thing, I also find it odd that these women took a pill that was offered to them. Who would do that? Who would go to a married man's hotel room or house? Why didn't they just leave instead of taking a pill which Bill said would relax them. Duh!
I actually did watch the trial coverage a lot because it was on my TV all the time as I live in the area, a suburb of Philly. But I will admit maybe I missed things as I am deaf and rely on closed captioning. I get most news from online and after awhile I was saturated with trial coverage and tended to drift so maybe I don't have every fact but I know what happened, how could I not. And I also know this happens all the time in the workplace but many of these allegations were different.
I do know that woman's lives are ruined by men but so are men's lives ruined by women. Many people in the prison system are innocent and it breaks my heart. As I said though, I don't believe Bill is innocent at all but I also don't believe the women were as pure as the driven snow to get into the situation. Didn't Angela go over to Bill's home where he was alone to get career advice? She could not have asked him to meet for coffee? She was a sitting duck for a mind like Bill's. Never put yourself in compromising positions like some of these women did. "Oh OK, I will come over. The wife is not home? That's okay! A pill? Oh okay, I'll take that if you say so Bill."
There are always 2 sides to every story. Is Bill guilty? Yes! Did some of these women make things easy for his creepy mind. Yes again.
I am almost BC age, I am in poor health and I am deaf so I guess I have some compassion for the elderly no matter what people do. I have a big forgiving nature, not for Bill's behavior but because of his age when he was found guilty. Getting old is not for sissies. I also feel for his wife, who appears befuddled and having just lost her second child I have compassion for her. She didn't do anything except stay loyal, she is a better or for worse type of wife. She has had a terrible life.
In the end it is Jesus who will decide his fate and I pray Bill and his wife turn to Him and accept Him as their Lord and Savior.
I do understand where you are coming from and again I am sorry that I got you so riled. Please forgive me.

I was not offended ... or riled. Just a tad exasperated that you were missing some key facts. Credible opinions are formed by having the right facts.
Have a good evening.

I also have compassion for the elderly, those who are law abiding citizens! Cosby is a predator, a power hungry star who was in the shadows for decades. At 80 + years , well, he should die in prison and pay for what he's done.

It's a general comment about his wife. And people who are highly intelligent and well educated definately lack common sense. I see it all the time. You can disagree all you want. I am entitled to write about my personal experiences of life.

Bingo! There is no "sliding scale" for punishment and incarceration based on age of prosecution. To try to justify a lighter sentence for a criminal because of old age is ridiculous, IMO.
What about the recently caught criminal dubbed the Golden State Killer? Believed to have murdered 12 people and committed over 50 rapes! Should he also get a lighter sentence because he's 70+ years old? Of course not.

I would make the change highlighted above .... you certainly haven't met even most of the highly intelligent people, so you obviously can't know all of them.
