I'm sorry if this is a stupid question but is there any way for me to review my posts on this board? And to remove certain information if I decide to? If yes how?

And lest we forget - any sort of theft or data mining aside -

Many people roam all sorts of forums on all sorts of websites and post utterly fictitious lives populated by made-up characters. It's their entertainment, their recognition, and their "gotcha" to the world. And you will NEVER get thanks for pointing it out, only attacked by the auto-defenders who rush to protect and defend anyone they perceive is being "picked on" or besmirched in any way - without knowing them from Adam.

When I see Teh Impossibly SoapyDramaz, I know. I know. If others choose not to know...whatever.

Some of the more experienced will need to help-but I think yes-just go to your post, click "edit post" and remove your information.

Re: Contributing to our own loss of privacy

@Moonchilde, thanks for posting this. When I was just starting to post here I remember protesting an inappropriate query, and IIRC, members of the Smarmy Sisterhood closed ranks in defense, saying the question was innocuous, etc., missing the point entirely.

But I think the sniffer queries are less compromising than the look-at-meeee! posts that are often basically boasts about how noble, selfless, forgiving, long-suffering, holy, or rich someone is, with a beard of soliciting feedback on some spurious question. Those folks, in their need for approval, are coughing up wads of details about themselves, their family members, their home life, shopping habits, medical conditions, physical characteristics, religion, work history, pets, affiliations, ethnic background, etc., etc. All without being asked. In the internet age, every piece of data like that can become identifying information.

While it's safe to talk about  this issue on this thread, it wouldn't be elsewhere in this forum. You'd  have the Sisters jump down your throat for seeing bugbears where none exist, at least to them. I'm talking about the intrusive questions, not the humble-brags or sob stories--those are untouchable.

Or, if you point out that the person who just said she'll turn 70 next Tuesday was born March 28, 1947, just to demonstrate how she's giving her privage data away, you'll be accused ot stalking or some other nonsense, and demonized. Count on it.

I doubt that the inappropriate info requests are going to stop unless QVC bans them, unfortunately, and I also doubt that warnings are going to keep most of the joiners from disclosing their lives away here.

The only problem is that if anybody quoted your post, you can't make that go away.

Re: Contributing to our own loss of privacy

Thank you - I just 'opted out' of my family tree info online. Great reminder for us to be wise. A friend recently reminded us on Facebook to stop taking the quizzes online. These quizzes grab Facebook info from you and friends.
