America has no reason to have a guilty conscience.  So many countries during World War II, Switzerland for one did nothing for no one, the same is true for the Scandinavian countries with the small exception of Denmark.  Where is their guilty conscious?  And yet we went into Europe to help the English and French and the Jews when really it was Japan that attacked us and that is the only country that did.  Germany did not attack America at Pearl Harbor.  Still we lost thousands upon thousands, upon thousands of young men fighting for the liberation of Europe and the Jews.  America has nothing to feel guilty over World War II.

We turned them away.  It doesn't make it OK because others did that, also.  It would not happen again today.

Japan and Germany were working together, they were allies.  We became allies with other countries to fight them both.

We did not lose thousands and thousands fighting for the Jews.

We fought to stop Hitler taking over Europe and other countries.  We already knew that we would be under attack also, as seen in Pearl Harbor.

I know it doesn't make it okay but it doesn't make us any worse than other countries either.  So again we have nothing to feel guilty about.  Becoming allies doesn't necessarly mean fighting someone else's war.  We had plenty to do just fighting Japan.

The Germans, with the help of the Japanese, were talking over country after country, not just Europe, we were on the list, in fact we did not enter the war until after Pearl.  We went in because we were a target.

I never said we had to be sorry for WW2, but the fact is that many were sorry we did not take in the refugees on the ship.

We had to stop Hitler, he was the real threat, not the Japanese, and as you know, we did stop the Japanese.

I said we lost thousands, upon thousands, upon thousands fighting for England, France AND the Jews.  For the liberation of Europe as a whole.  And America has been the biggest surpporter of Israel since.  America could not have done more than what they did in WWII.

The fact remains that Japan attacked us first and therefore they were the ones we had to deal with directly.  And yes we did deal with them in a way that we would not have normally done - the bomb.  But for the fact that we had colossal numbers of lives lost in France and Germany that we had nothing left to fight Japan with.  Not in man power and not in will power

Editing to add: that it was not so much about "will-power", but that America had lost soooo many lives in Europe that they didn't have the heart for more war and loss of life in the Pacific as well.  And no one could blame them for that.

Are you so sure that we wouldn't turn desperate people, fleeing war, away now?

MANY  leaders would, in a heartbeat.
