Re: Community Page - Share your Top Five Updated

Having a newbie's posts monitored for a period of time would slow down the posters that come on solely to slam a poster.

Hey, thanks for the heads up about this new survey, Buck-I-Nana! I welcome better monitoring and communication -- as far as I know, I'm not causing too many problems{#emotions_dlg.biggrin}, so their watchful eye doesn't bother me.

More careful moderation always makes the troublemakers squirm! There's a saying that it's the criminals who want fewer cops around!{#emotions_dlg.laugh}

I helped manage a couple of boards related to my job a few years ago. I can tell you, we welcomed input from the folks who posted.

{#emotions_dlg.thumbup1}That's a standard practice at well-managed boards, tansy.

I suggested that they remove the "last edited" deal. It just causes more drama.

I think it is ridiculous to suggest that moderators babysit people and check their posts over first. I also think some people who want that feature might be surprised to find themselves subject to such babysitting. Sort of like when the neighborhood watch groups want a policeman on duty to stop speeders. Guess who gets a ticket? Yup. The ones who wanted the policeman.

Well then, they would perhaps have their own eyes opened as to what part they play in the frequent flare-ups. I find that to add even more credence to the suggestion!

Moderators are already babysitting, but they're having to do it by either poofing and entire thread, or pick through the individual posts to delete them.

if you read the suggestion carefully you find it is for people that have caused trouble on threads. Only their posts would be monitored. It would cut down on the trolling and multi-nic issues we all agree we have.

I think it might also stop this insane bickering that seems to erupt all too often.

Agreed. I forgot that while I was submitting my list.

not to mention..........does anyone really think the Q is going to add to their overhead by having to hire additional people to wade through all these posts before they are allowed to post.........LOL..........yeah right............these forums are a marketing tool to them......just like sending out those emails that an item on your wish list is back in stock.........the longer you're here the more prone you are to purchase something......they aren't baby sitters, and face it, everyone here is too darn old to need a sitter...................................raven

But they are relying on the "report inappropriate button" in most cases which is obvious. In order to moderate each post made by certain people it would be very time consuming and as someone else said ruin the flow of threads.

I agree with Wookie. The board is over moderated as it is, although the moderation is very uneven.

They would be monitoring just about every poster on viewpoints then!
