Re: Comment Made to Me Yesterday

I was standing at the front desk at our office one day, just talking with a few others.  One of the partners of the firm came up to us, looked me up and down and said loudly, "ah, baby-making hips."  There were surprised faces and I heard a giggle, but nothing was said.  He then just walked away.  I should have said "ah, big A$$," but I was too taken aback.

I guess I could have sued, but it was a good job that I had for many years and I hardly ever had contact with this particular partner.  Other things happened there, especially when I was younger, but I took it from whence it came.

Re: Comment Made to Me Yesterday

When I concentrate on something I'm thinking about, I get pale, bite my lower lip, frown and bow my head.  More then one time a stranger will come up to me and ask me if I'm alright (mostly) and sometimes if I'm ill.  It's got so, I try not to think about anything when I'm out in public, LOL!

Re: Comment Made to Me Yesterday

Not rude so much as stupid while trying to be sympathetic. I think it was meant to be kind. People could assume that those in a pharmacy queue are "sick" and make a general comment of sympathy as she did.

That said, anyone who has said to me "You look tired", "You look (whatever)" has been wrong more often than not. It's like for some people that's one of the routine things they offer - "You look ...."

I think it's a very stupid thing to say to anyone, but I'm also pretty sure it was kindly meant.

I wouldn't say  (maybe):

"Funny I was just thinking that about you.  I just wasn't going to say it out loud"

At the time, I just dismissed the comment, but you know how at the end of the day, you reflect back on things that happened?

That's all I was doing, reflecting.

Don't waste your time trying to find things to be offended about.

Why not? Here you are, wasting time being consciously, deliberately rude.

And you aren't?   Your post is just as bad as the one you are condemning, as usual.

Yesterday, I went to Costco, to pick up my dad's prescriptions.

While I was waiting for the script to be filled, a woman, a total stranger, said to me as she walked by, "Oh, poor dear! You look so sick!"

I just smiled and said, "No, I'm just tired", and honestly, I was tired.

I can't fathom saying to a perfect stranger, "Oh, my! You look so sick!"

Would you say that to a total stranger?

I wouldn't.

In fact, I think it was kinda rude of her to say that.

I think what I should have said instead was, "You're right. I am sick. In fact, I have a highly contagious disease.". *lol*

Do you think what she said was rude?

Thoughts?

I think that it is rude.

I also agree with KittyLou's comment.

We also don't know someone else's state of mind, either, so I sometimes think that it's better not to say anything in response at all. Smiley Happy

And you're stepping right up, as usual. People who find me rude on this forum are often those posters who are right out there on the Rude Firing Line themselves and have issues with someone responding in kind. I get a kick out of those responses, so thanks for the morning chuckle 😎

Re: Comment Made to Me Yesterday

I'd go with it was a thoughtless comment that popped out of her mouth, rather than rude.  Maybe after she said it, she wanted to kick herself.
