We just went back to Cable and have On Demand. I thought I would be able to find daytime shows like Ellen and the View since they show other shows that are on all the other networks. I mena a lot of the night time shows. I also notice they don't show much on Demand for the Hallmark Channel I love that channel. I feel like the On Demand is almost like having a DVR when you can watch a lot of different shows that have been on in the last week.

I have Comcast on Demand. They don't have every imaginable show available but they have a decent selection. There is this one program I like (Incredible Dr. Pol) about a vet who works on farm animals in Michigan. I find it enjoyable and there are shows On Demand so if I forget to DVR the shows or if I'm out I can watch the shows at my leisure.
I never looked for those daytime shows you mentioned. They are on daily so maybe there isn't much demand for them. Maybe get the DVR if you don't have that feature.

It's not just Comcast. The networks provide the OnDemand content -- regardless of cable provider. In most cases, you are only going to get shows that generate significant revenue on various networks. You will not get syndicated programming or "filler" programming such as "Little House on the Prairie" (not that I am criticizing LHOTP!).

On Demand started out commercial free. Now not so much.

OnDemand started out with pay-per-views, then premium services first and requires subscriptions (e.g HBO, Cinemax etc.) were added, then "additional services" such as MagRack, then other networks. As the other networks were added, of course they added commercials, as that is their source of revenue. Seriously, why would NBC (for instance) provide any of their programming for OnDemand viewers commercial free? If they did, everyone would just watch OnDemand, and NBC would not make money.

Many have commercials but you can fast-forward through them On-Demand, which you can't do when watching in "real time". CBS doesn't let you, but other channels do.

Comcast is lousy like that. We're new to Comcast and miss the company we had in SoCal. We're also in a battle with Comcast, as our reception is so bad: we have horizontal lines going both ways, sometimes vertical lines and a gritty looking picture over all. Our black and white TV we had when I was a kid gave us a better picture than Comcast!
