Colorado Wildfires

[ Edited ]

We have 3 big fires going on in Colorado, 2 north of the Denver metro area and one in the SW side of town in Jefferson County.

The Jeffco fire is about 6 miles from us by road, maybe 3 - 4 miles as the crow flies.

Started out last night when a Jeffco Sheriff saw the blaze in a heavily wooded area, about 10x10 then but now has grown to over 200 acres, 0% contained.

The helicopters have been flying all morning getting water from across the street at Chatfield Reservoir and bringing to the fire.

We hear the helicopters doing their water drills often, this time it's the real thing!

Pretty scary, we don't have rain in the forecast till maybe Monday or Tuesday.

@rockygems123 I am so sorry to hear about the fires, particularly yours. I hope the wind is calm, and it can be contained quickly. Please keep us posted about its progress.

I will keep you and your family in my prayers.  My son and daughter-in-law live in Bailey and my granddaughter in Lakewood, so I keep a close watch on the wildfire conditions in Colorado. So far they haven't had any alerts from the Fire Service.

I'm not near any of the fires but we have a lot of smoke here in Colorado Springs. Here we go again...it's fire season.

@rockygems123.  So sorry to hear about fires in Colorado.  I heard there are over 100 serious wildfires burning in the US.

I think this hellacious weather this summer has brought will never be over, and we've got two months to go yet.

Thank you @On It .  That's exactly what the weatherman just said, wind was mild today with just a bit more breezy tomorrow.

Will keep everyone posted.  News just said this could go on for weeks, yikes.

@Kachina624   Thank you, hellacious is a great way to describe this long hideous summer.

Was telling a nice young Russian man today who has been here for 5 years that we had in the past beautiful summers with almost guaranteed afternoon rain and thunderstorms, it was so lush then

Thank you so much.  I feel so sorry for the displaced people, we've had human loss limited so far to 1 person and 4 firefighter injuries.  We all appreciate the prayers Smiley Happy

Luckily Bailey has been OK this summer and Lakewood should pretty much be protected as it is away from the usual fray.

We appreciate the prayers, it may be quite a while till they put out the fires.

So far in our area 0% contained.
